A snapped axle is different then a broken u-joint or cracked u-joint.
I've found my u-joints cracked ready to give and replaced before they broke and before snapping an axle shaft.
Thats why I made mention to physically look & grab the u-joint to see.
A snapped axle you really wouldn't be moving without alot of noise and grinding.

Sounds more like a U-joint, with the way your describing it.
Check the axle u-joints, by turning your wheels out first and physcially grabbing axle & ujoints to see if there's play and then turn wheels in as well. You should be able to try rocking the wheels by hand to see if play as well in u-joint.
If those are fine then would check front driveshat and check u-joint & pinion & t-case

Don't have an answer for ya but how did the vativa's do in the pit? did you get stuck in that F&^king hole?
By the way I saw your Jeep sitting outside J&L today around 4pm with the new tires...looks awesome!

So when Im in the sand tonight I put the Jeep in 4Lo. When i would make a gradual turn right or left i would get a tick tick tick, almost like shot bearings in a cv shaft type of ticking. This wasn't a hard turn or a full lock turn, it was a gradual turn, not enought to make the 4x4 to bind. What should i check? it was deff. from the front end.
p.s. - i know it wasn't a cv shaft, it was just a comparison. My old Nissan used to do it.
