Long arm lifts require cutting off the OEM control arm brackets and welding on the brackets that are provided with the respective lift kit.
Short and mid arms use the OEM control arm brackets.
Choice is yours, depending on personal preference and type of wheeling done. Long arm kits are supposed to maximize suspension travel and axle articulation.
Me? I'm looking hard at the Rock Krawler 3.5" Mid-Arm.

Long arm vs. Short arm Lift
I have a 08 Sahara Unlimited and i'm researching for a 4" lift. Besides price what is the difference between the long and short arm kits? I really like the Skyjacker #JK40LAK-SX.
As far as application I plan on upgrading rims to 16", tires to 35", gears to 4.88, front axel to dana 44, Ox diff lockers, brakes, and 4" lift.
Any advise will be appreciated.
