Another view on ax-15 oil.

I recently bought a 95 YJ. It had been a deer lease jeep for 5 years so hasn't seen 60 mph for a while. I found the tranny had a whine to it when under load. Especially in 5th gear.
After reading a bunch of opinions about lubricant choices I just couldn't bring myself to put 10-30wt oil in an 18 year old tranny with 133k miles on it.
I drained it and it was nasty. I put in Mobil 1 15-50wt. I also put about a pint of Redline heavy shockproof oil I had on the shelf. The tranny seems real happy with that combo. It shifts smooth. It still has a bit of a whine in 5th but it is better. I hope the shockproof will help the tranny age gracefully.
