Teraflex motor mounts on the frame

Problem #1. Alternator will not fit here, it dosn't have clearance against the frame. (working on solving this)

Problem #2. The oil pan sits super low on this motor. There is clearance but new bumpstops may have to be made or I'm wondering if the 5.7 oil pan will fit, it requires less clearance.

The conclusion has been reached so far that unless your rig is lifted high up, there most likely wont be enough clearance for the oil pan since it sits so low.
You need to put a Notch in the frame, Cut out an aera for alt clearance then flip it over and weld it back in therby createing a "notch" so that the ALT will clear, Also you'll need a new oil pan from a 6.1 that was installed in a truck thay have the sump in the rear the car Hemi has the sump in the front check out Jeep forum.com there is a 6.1 being installed in a LJ wrangler and I'm getting ready to do mine at the end of this month

gremlinsteve i have a hand built aluminum oil pan that might work for that jeep/motor.
also, if i was you i would swap out the timing cover for a dodge truck cover. that way all the accesories are munted "high" and thr is no frame issues.

a/c is mounted on drivers side near front of head and alt is mounted pass. side near the front of that head.

exhaust? you should be able to get away with srt8 jeep manifolds also. i have a set of them laying around if pics are needed.

all the 5.7 parts are direct change over btw..

yjkid95 My brother also just came up with an idea for the alternator its kinda crazy. Maybe you should get an eletric waterpump and powersteering pump and try to mount the alternator to the frame and custom make a idler pulley. You can find a belt to be short enough and polyurethane motor mounts might be in store if you dont have enough slack with the tensioner.

yjkid95 I have an idea for the oil pan its going your going to have to research it though. What about a dry sump oil pan like the new corvette z06 has the oil pan clears the crankshaft by and inche or too then it has a seperate tank that holds all the oil that the 7.0 ls7 needs it lets them sit the engine in lower to the ground for a lower center of gravity and the oil doesnt go to one side when it going around a turn...Just an idea for ya then youd have plenty of clearance.

wolfen Funny,,,,,,,yet true they have updated their cars to crown Vics, with teh biggest V8 Ford has now days, and I don;t have the old Challenger anymore so now I have something new and improved for them on the road its a 05 Chevy Malibu, and MY ride is either the 01 wrangler, or a 89 Chevy S-10 Blazer, teh funny part is my Jeep has a2.5 engine 3 speed auto and open diffs, and I can go anywhere their 08 Hummer H2 can't, with its LSD rear and air locker in front, I work for the city so I get inside info on what and where the do what, so I went to a police "drive rodeo and entered my Jeep AND Blazer against their Ford F350 super duty King Ranch edition and Hummer H2, I took the little S-10 Blazer and yanked the F350 backwards out of the mud it was stuck in (only a 2wd version F350 LOL), in Lo/1 and the hummer tried to follow me in the Jeep over the obstacle course LOL of course a H2 weighs in at 8k so I can honestly say I didn't sink in the sand of course I don;t weigh 8k either , PLUS even with open diffs, I think I know how to drive and apparently I'm just a little better than out local cops.

97rangler you gotta be able to have a custom one built for that motor, i mean if your spending the time to put a 6.1 in a tj you gotta have some fab know how to build or have a custom unit made. maybe someone with a cad design program might be able to draw one up for you. totally sick tj though im jealous

yah it was neat.. the guy could go over damn near anything in 2wd just by shear power.. then he'd lock the arb lockers and just idle over the same things without pressin the gas.. amused me

i get to drive a hemi everyday =D just wish it was in my jeep and not my charger =/

oh dont have any pics of the jeep wheelin but here it is on the trailer next to my jeep

wolfen I feel ya there, I have Dana 30 in the front and a Dana 35 in the back, (both open diffs) and I hope I never have to put a bigger engine in mine cause I don;t think I Dana 35 will take a 4.3, and that's the next engine I'm putting in any Jeep I ever own other than the one it came with.

Just Imagine a Jeep wrangler with a Chevy 4.3 engine 350 turbo trans and transfer case setup wit Dana 44's equipped with LSD's. I got that idea cause My 89 S-10 Blazer is my recovery vehicle, for a 01 Wrangler with a 2.5 and a 3 speed auto (for now anyway)

Twozerofd Im stickin with the stock Rubi dana 44's and the 4.10 gears. For now. Eventually ill go to a dana 60. the only thing that gives me some comfort is that the SRT8 Grand Cherokee has a dana 44, and a viper V-10 has a dana 44. My tranny is being replaced with a 6 speed Getrag, but im keeping the stock Rubi transfer case. im sure that if i ever complete this that when i drive ill be finding more pieces i need to replace....

Well all I can say is make sure the transmission, Transfer case and differentials and axles will handle that much power, if they do......................................... ROCK ON BROTHER
12-12-2009 04:03 PM
MikalCarbine Very nice! What front axle are you packing? The power behind that 6.1 would probably explode a D35 into pieces
