I also have a 98 that was doing the same.
A bit of grease would probably be better...
but I also used WD-40, and still haven't heard it for a year or so.

05GT-O.C.D. Yup, it's probably the seal where the steering shaft goes through the firewall. A little grease will fix it. Heck, I used WD40 one year when I kept forgetting to pick up new grease.

rday78 On my 97 it was more of a groan in cold weather when I turned the wheel. A little lithium grease at the firewal where the gromit for the steering colum goes through did the trick. Hope this helps.

98 wrangler squeaky noise in steering column

got a 98 wrangler in mint cond with low miles. It has a squeaky noise in the steering column. I have tilt wheel and didnt know if it has anything to do with it. Any help on easy quick fix?
