thaduke2003 ^ Agreed. I've heard my engine/trans skids hit on green trails before. It's cheap, easy insurance. Also, I've even noticed an improvement in fuel economy on the highway. The aerodynamic effect is from the flattened surface- fewer things air has to travel around, so it flows more smoothly. A nice undertray effect, in other words- Mark W.

scottrock Check out River Raider. They've got a trick oil pan/tranny skid. Oil pan skid covers the whole pan and mounts to the motor mounts.

Oh, and whowever said you wont dent your oil pan unless your an extreme rock crawler. Neit. I live in Florida (see "no rocks", extreme or otherwise) and I have put enough dents in mine to be concerned and have a RR oilpan skid awaiting installation.

thaduke2003 ^ It's not THAT bad. I wheel with a guy who has one of these. At first, he added safety wire to keep it in place, but then it dragged behind him. Now, we make him run tail-gunner, since he drops his skid after every decent hit. PITA factor of about an 8 out of 10.
A REAL skid plate is bolted or welded in- take your pick, but things are usually cheap for a reason... Mark W.

If you decide to go with a glued on skid, you might as well save a bit of money and do it yourself. This set up will only set you back $7.42 total and will probably offer just about as much protection!!!

thaduke2003 In my travels down blue and black trails, my engine/trans skid has taken MANY hits, while my EVAP skid is still muddy, but untouched.
As for what skid to use, the Rancho glue-on piece does its job, but WILL fall off after a decent hit. It also does ZERO good for the trans, which is more towards the middle of the vehicle, and thus, more likely to take a hit.
I can HIGHLY recommend either the River Raider engine/trans skid (on Briana's) or Skid Row (on mine). Both have served us well in the past, and are easy enough to touch up. Both companies stand behind their gear, and will help you out on the phone or via e-mail if necessary- Mark W.

JIMBOX Protecting the engine pan is a good idea, if you get a combo skid, that does the xmission at the same time

The pan is the highest point underneath you and the chances of hitting it with a rock are slim to none, unless you're an extreme rocker

Get an evap skid first and protect the diff's, get some sliders

OSUJEEPER O and I think most guys are more concerned about the Evap thingy.(black box in the bottom about the middle of the jeep) then the oil pan. Good Luck

iamagolfspaz Oil Pan Skid? I wouldn't use glue to attach anything to my JK.

Oil Pan Question

I recently bought a 2008 2 door JK. Having it lifted 2", new bumper, winch. I asked about a cover for my oil pan and the guy at the shop said he only had one that would be glued on.
Are there others out there? Does the glued one work?

Appreciate your help
