The reason the door opening is so narrow is to compensate for the lack of structure within the door....
By all means I would say go for them but understand that they only help to restrict and cushion the head & neck in an impact.... They are not going to necessarily save a life but they will certainly help prevent injury if the conditions are right.....
With that said they can "hurt" if the conditions are wrong, been there done that......
Good luck with the Jeep

|tangofoxtrot||I was just looking for a 2010 Unlimited Rubicon and was surprised how few of the ones on the dealer lots had them. My daughter is 16 and will be driving soon. I could not imagine putting her at risk without them. Just look at how thin the doors are, they provide no protection. I ordered my new Rubicon with the side airbags and look foward to a June delivery.|

Since you're ordering it--GETEM
A DD and family carrier, why pass up the obvious life saver ???
It's not an extreme rock crawler, so there's NO reason to decline the option !!

Agreed in pricinple to the purchase of a JK Unlimited with my dealership (have to locate the Jeep with the options I wanted). Was doing more reading and research this week and didn't realize until now that side airbags are an option. I thought all new vehicles came pretty much standard with them. I saw that the side impact crash ratings were poor for Wranglers not equipped with them. This Jeep will be my DD and family hauler, so I don't think I want to skimp on protection.
What's everyone's thought about the side airbags?? How many of you have them?
Thanks again as always- great forum.
