Jerry Bransford Nice job and very creative thinking but....

I hate to be the bearer of bad news... I really do... but the factory spare tire mount absolutely, really, cannot withstand the additional weight of that full jerry can even while just offroad. In fact, especially when offroad due to the additional stress that the bumps will create. That the jerry can is further away from the mount that the spare tire is gives it enormous leverage against the spare tire mount. Eventually, the mount will crack & fail. Simultaneously it will put a lot of stress on the door hinges and the door won't close properly after a while.

I had the factory mount crack & fail just under the added weight of a 33" spare tire which is nothing, leverage-wise, compared to the added strain a full jerrry can creates.

Not to mention if anyone in a truck rear-ended you, I'd hate to see the results with them hitting a full jerry can first.

Image Group Can you change the design and have two parallel so you can have two cans?

shipjim Smitty bilt has an attachment mounts on the spare tire bolts with a extension sticking out to hold a tool bar attachment. The can and jack fit on them fine. About 135.00

drivebytruckerz I was thinking about mounting my Jack there with that same method.

IndyJeepMan I actually made almost the exact same thing. Lets make them for the masses! Looks just as good as mine, good job I like your retention method way better than mine though

Jerry Gas Can Mount Option

After a few days of brain-storming I finally came up with a very inexpensive and utilitarian option for mounting my jerry style gas can. I wanted to share it with you. It only cost me about $40 and 3 hours to make. I know it's not ideal to have the weight of the can when it's full of gas on the hinges but I only plan to fill it when I'm off-roading and I figure if I don't open the tailgate much while it's full I should be ok. Also I used 3/4" nuts to mount it so I can remove it with the lug nut wrench in the event that I need to use the spare. Let me know if you'd like more details on it.
