Dave blavos Is the play when twisting or is it up and down Twisting is gear backlash that's normal If it's up and down , it could be the bearings are bad . In that case you will have to pull the diff and replace them . They have shims that should be put back in the same spots on the diff and pinion . The pinion also has a crush sleeve that takes up the bearing preload that has to be replaced any time it's pulled apart. Here's a good websight that might help.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/Gear

Front Pinion Seal & Play???

Last night I noticed my front pinion seal has a leak and after crawling under there also noticed that the Pinion Yoke has just a bit of play to it as well. I'm not sure if this is from the bad seal or possbile bearing.

The seal itself should be easy enough to replace, I'm just hoping that a new seal helps with the bit of play to the yoke.

I'm hoping to tear into it tonight to get a better idea, I figure once I remove the seal I should be able to tell if there's play and if its a bearing.

I'm just wondering... if it is the bearing how hard or difficult is it and is there any write-ups or helpful tips for replacing.

Thanks in advance,
Chris
