My yj had a soundbar in it when I got it. After reinstalling it properly (screws missing, banging all over the place), I couldn't imagine not having it. One of the speakers is a little buzzy and missing a grill. Come spring, I'll probably replace them. The original dash speakers are also hooked up, but are shot. I'll replaced them too, but I heard its a real bitch to do.

Thomas S Since this got resurrected I'll play.

I picked up a used sound bar that someone tried to cut larger to accept 4x6s. Not sure I can get it to work or not. If not, I'll be building my own.

W5KVV Man you brought this thread back from the grave! I agree with the majority, a sound bar is a must. My old YJ had Jensen speakers in it, they were ok, my current YJ has Infinity Kappas in it. Snazzy.

StreetCouch I just wanted to jump in and say I got a sound bar installed today and it makes a huge difference already. I can hear my tunes!

Accursius I have Kicker 4x6 in the dash and the VDP sound Pods with Kicker 6x9 installed with a 500 watt amp.. Sound great at any speed. Even with 37's

I would like to swap out the speakers with some alpine but not sure they will fit any idea of the actual interior area of the sound bars?

NewYJOwner I have a 2 speaker sound bar and a pair of sound wedge's with 6x9's, All are run through an amp mounted under the rear seat. You may lose a little rear travel in the seats with the wedges but i'm 5'8 and no issues with leg room in mine. Can hear the tunes with no problems whatsoever. Having the soundbar puts those speakers close to your head and helps you hear the music without cranking the volume way up.

Most soundbars, if you pull the velco flaps (that wrap around the srpeader bar) there is a metal plate that wraps part way around the spreader bars and has 2 holes on each side, you drill into the spreader bars and run some screws into them to attatch the soundbar securely.

93jeepwrangler Im thinking of buying a soundbar, but im totally sure how to install it. Anybody have any ideas?

kj 92yj i have a soundbar in mine and it is fantastic. i think for the most part they are all the same. like everyone said above it all depends on the speakers you put in. i also bought a set of the 6x9 pod things from quadratec that fit between the roll bar and rear wheel well. they work very good, but the speakers that come with them are TERRIBLE. better to buy without the speakers and supply your own. finally, i have been to several bone yards in my area and i have noticed that many of the jeeps have either a factory or aftermarket sound bar in them. you may be able to pick one up on the ultra cheap if you have some yards around your area you can explore.

fredw68 Does anybody make a quality soundbar? Are they all plastic?
08-13-2010 08:44 PM
Gee oh Dee I've got a factory sound bar in mine, its awesome. Haven't taken the doors or hard top off yet, but I still like having the soundbar. Its factory, though, so I'll have to end up replacing the speakers.

N8whitie Geoff@bestop has your answer. The boat speakers kill any other speaker set up. They even have the clamps that clamp on the wakeboard tower and they fit perectly on the roll bars. And yes... they are loud as hell.... not to mention they look cool. The only problem I see is that they would be easy for a thief to get their grubby little hands on if you roll around with your top down alot. Look on Ebay, you can find some pretty good deals.

Just-Jimmy Definitely a must have! Get any soundbar and upgrade the speakers!! They are all built pretty good but some hold more speakers than others. Mine holds 6. 2 Full Range, 2 Mids, and 2 tweeters. The tweeters can be swiveled to face any direction you want the highs pointed in!

jeeps&comics i dont have a soundbar, but have sound pods, something like this, but i got it from ebay and without speakers for pretty cheap (Vertically Driven Products 793501 - VDP Overhead Sound Pods for 87-06 Jeep® Wrangler YJ, TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec) and get compliments on my soundsystem all the time.. if you replace the front stock speakers and get sound pods, you'd be fine. but a sound bar is just as good, so my recommendation is yes, get one, and brand doesnt really matter as long as you install good speakers, and make sure it's mounted good

Ibuildembig I have had one with 6 drivers in it, but I wasn't really impressed. The stock soundbars are steal and not plastic.

93Wrangler44 How did you get the speakers in the factory location? Do you have to take apart the whole dash or can I just remove the front plate somehow?
08-09-2010 07:29 PM
fredw68 Any brand of sound bar better than another? Im guessing any of them is going to have crappy speakers that will need to be replaced, but what about the sound bar itself? Are they all plastic?
08-09-2010 01:37 AM
Pullsout i just put 6x9s and mounted them to the wheel wells
08-08-2010 10:16 PM
Geoff@Bestop A guy at work put nice boat speakers in his CJ. The kind that boaters use to help waterskiiers hear the music. So, um, loud. But they sound pretty good. Two of them, mounted along the sides in the back.

Ibuildembig ANYTHING is an upgrade to Jenson lol

Well, I can think of a few that are questionable haha
08-08-2010 09:52 PM
jarrod I just put JL's in my sound bar. Made a HUGE difference.

billy_YJ You def want a soundbar if you are tight on space, like all YJ & TJ folks are. Also, if you plan on going topless & or doorless you NEED a soundbar. I have a 95 YJ & just put in a 6 speaker(with dome lights) Rugged Ridge soundbar. I mounted it and took it to Best Buy to do the wiring(like $40). I can hear my music just fine on the highway doing 75mph! LOVE IT! First thing I did when I got my jeep was replace the cd player, the 2 "crap-tastic" dash speakers and then soon after the soundbar. Check out my profile for pics...

Wrangler Haven Yeah the factory sound bars for the YJ came with Jensen paper-cone speakers which were ultra crap-tastic and didn't last long if you ever got caught in the rain with the top off. Any sound bar will improve the sound quality in your Wrangler but make sure you get some Poly-cone speakers with it.

Ibuildembig Factory ones are fine if you swap out the speakers
