andreafahy01 okay so I see the nv4500 is a type of transmission. That's a start.

I'm trying out a new mechanic, my pops has used him this year and has been happy so I thought I'd give him a shot. He mentioned that he has done a few Jeep transmission rebuilds so I can only hope he's good with my Jeep.

Is there anything I should be considering along transmission repair work or replacement? I really need to just get my lazy hands on a Jeep book of some kind and get some basic knowledge drilled in. No one around here thinks a chick should know anything so they aren't apt to share much with me.

So my poor little jeep is a bit of a stranger to me although we are very close and comfortable with each other, lol. I remember that my engine is some sort of boat engine or something along those lines. Its a two word name, if someone said it I would recognize it but I think I'm still hungover and can't recollect much of anything at the moment.

I guess what I'm getting at is feel free to through some bits of pertinent info my way; I don't know enough to even know what sort of questions to ask! But I'd like to feel a bit prepared when the mechanic calls and gives me the diagnostics and suggested work. He won't be looking at it till tomorrow morning though.

I'm a smart one, I saved my engine info in my jeep profile b/c I knew I'd forget! It's a Iron Duke Engine, 2.5 4 cylinder Are there any considerations b/t engine and transmission?

andreafahy01 hmmm, nv4500? Honestly, I know practically nothing about my jeep (regretfully, I'm trying!) and he knows even less! He likes to just use the hell out of things and await things magically get repaired.

I guess I'm a genie.

4Jeepn I think this was the easy way for him to get an nv4500 in the YJ, without having to tell you why you need one.. Yep that is it... clearly or he just likes spankings..

andreafahy01 That may just be the problem at hand...

monkeee2002 Boooo!
Bad form! It's bad enough to look a gift horse in the mouth, but to do that is just plain bad form! ( You should )
Hope it's cheap & easy to fix!

I bought Greg a set of new tires for his JK and had all its maintenance done. During this, he takes my YJ out and kills the transmission. I take his car and make it better, he takes mine and tries to murder it! hehe, I don't know yet. Third gear has been crunchy sounding and while he was out fifth gear stopped working. So back to the shop with my Jeep this time, they mentioned transmission rebuild. And I still need a new muffler and a catalytic converter. I teased saying I'd be better off not working and not having a car. In the past we've always shared one car, I don't really need to work... but I do love my little turd of a Jeep
