I get it on the weekends, but she drives it all week , it's her car my toy. Me and the kid like mudd'in, beach and trails when I can find them. Her not so much , I.E. gravel roads are her off road to her.

I am running 33x12.5x17 on my JK. I didn't need a lift to run them, but I ended up getting a TeraFlex 1.5" leveling kit, and 1.5" SpiderTrax spacers. Overall, I am very pleased with the result. I don't rock crawl, but the places I go required a little extra clearance (logs/small boulders/etc.). Stock ride is maintained, center of gravity isn't increased all that much, and I didn't bottom out this weekend on a trail where I previously did scrape before the mods. Oh, and It was only $100 for the kit (I got an IAFF discount through an online dealer), and $100 for the spacers used off another forum. Cheap and effective for my needs.

Good morning castorj, I don't live in the Sierras, some of the time !!
In Nv, it's 30 minutes to Truckee-Sierras and thats my gas/food/weather-point for treks-
My place in Fernley is 20 min. from Pyramid Lake, 30 min. from reno, 30 min. from FALLON Nv, 1˝ hr from TAHOE-
It's the desert at 4200 ft, I'm there every two weeks and getting used to the Alt. diff. ! !
I'm from Portland and have spent a lot of time on the Columbia and the Ore coast !

|ddbowdoin||what is the max tire/wheel combination you can throw on a JK without a lift? I'd like to get a lift but theres no way I could do the work myself. I don't even know where to begin to find a shop in the Boston area that would specialize in truck/suv/jeep 4x4 offroad lifts.|

For the extra inch you get from 35s, it wasn't worth the weight, expense, and wear&tear to me.
If it wasn't a DD though...
I've also run BFG KM2 255/85-16 and Goodyear MTR/kevlar in the 285/75-16.

|Aaronkushner||What size tires are you running with that 2.5" lift??|
|08-16-2010 04:59 AM|
I only lifted mine for breakover angle, more departure clearance (kept dragging my trailer wiring and snapping the connector off), and my rear tires knocked my back fenders off every now and then.
2.5" on my DD was "just right".

you need a lift? if you're having issues with being high centered or you're using alot throttle to climb up stuff, this is solved by a lift and bigger tires.
if you do ok off-road, obviously, you're fine without.

I don't think that I'll lift mine, probably just trim plastic if I need to.
I wheel in the woods and tree limbs tend to do damage..lol
Mine's a DD and occasional wheeler also, to get to work though, having a Jeep is a blessing.....
Really haven't needed to be taller....

Not you Jimbo! f8259o8! Comfort zone matters but also what sort of driving is at hand would put into play what sort of lift/tires to run. I think it would be cool to be super lifted in my Jeep, but there's no reason for it and when I need to spend my money on transmission, muffler, catalytic converter, reversing the rust damage... spending the cash on a big lift and tires would just be silly because my driving doesn't even require it! It's my daily driver and occasional off roading, everything is flat around here though. Maybe some potholes and mudding, but no rock crawling or anything like that.
Stupid kids have the most fun ya know We're oblivious to anything but fun, hehe

If you're talking to me--My jeep is a toy, I only play init
Idrive freeway at 70mph to get back to the Sierras, the 4hi/4lo/w trailer for 25 to 100 off-road miles/camp/fish--
My jeep has no other purpose, but to play with, just like a stupid kid !!

I'm curious to see what folks have to say here, we've thought about lifting both Jeeps at some point. I think my YJ could use it a bit but the JK does feel fine to me!
What sort of driving do you do?
|08-15-2010 06:26 PM|
It's strictly RELATIVE !!
Is a $5000 buck Rolex watch, worth it ??
Are JORDAN tennis shoes, worth $130 bucks
Is a Smith & Wesson 1911, worth the $1100 bucks
Everything is based on your COMFORT ZONE !!

New JK Lift of no lift
OK I am trying to decide lift or no lift I like the way the jk rides, is the lift worth the money, or would i better served by buying better tires? I can run 33 X 11.5 on my stock rims.
