Clutch Issues

So today after driving my jeep for a good hour or so, i was at a stop and i went to put it in first and it just would not go. i tried going from 2nd then to first but couldnt get it into second. Eventually i got it to go and made it home. But as i got closer to home the shifting seemed to get almost back to normal. But the thing i noticed while it was bad was that my clutch pedal had a lot of play in it. More than normal. So im gonna try driving it agin tomorrow to see how it is. But im thinking the tranny fluid may need to be replaced. Any thoughts?
