This word problem post made me feel like I'm taking the SAT..
When I bought my last vehicle, I was so set on getting a specific color that I ended up paying several hundred more via dealer swap compared to the same exact vehicle on the lot just in a different color. Hindsight says I should have been more open minded with just limiting my color choices vs an outright MUST HAVE ONLY RED option.

|joemd60||And if I may chime in, props for buying a Jeep! I agree about the loan, if you can buy the Jeep cash do so, more money for mods which do not come cheap. As for buying used because you cannot afford new,that is me and I am sure several others. Go check prices on the low end 2010 Wranglers, I almost choked on my coffee when I saw the Sport on the lot with the ugly steel wheels, cheap tires and zero options for 23K. My $.02 get the 2010-2011 JK
I would definitely trade whichever car you use less....
You still will have the jeep for fun but long trips are better suited for a less gas hungry vehicle.....
Anyone who says to buy a used jeep just can't afford a new one......
Even the knowledgeable TJ owners will tell you the JK is better hands down out of the box especially the Rubi.....
Jeep agrees they think the JK is the best they have put out to date......

|Lithium Lotus||I called the dealer with the "cheap jeep". It was a bait-n-switch listing. I won't name the dealer, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I'll be going back to my local dealer later this week to see if they can do a dealer trade for me. Found another JK exactly the way I want it at a reasonable price. Oh, and I will be trading CarA if everything works out. Going to keep CarB for the good gas mileage.|

|Lithium Lotus||Small update: I was looking online and found a new Mountain exactly the way I would want it at a discounted price [way under msrp]. I will call the dealer Monday to see if it's still available. If it is available, I can trade in Car B and still have a low payment.|

|Vanimal00000||I would suggest trying to sell car A since its paid off. The dealer is going to screw you over on trade ins. But if you want to trade it in then so be it. Keep car b as a daily driver still. If you don't drive car A very much, you aren't going to want to drive it once you get your jeep. I had a yamaha r6 and got rid of it after I got my jeep. And I would advise buying a '10 over the 11 only because the cost would be a lot more. Also go with the Rubicon if at all possible. I have an 04 mountain edition and absolutely love it, but if I could get a rubi I would. My .02|

Dude by a used Jeep. Either TJ or early model JK.
Trust me, the money you save will go towards gas and parts.
Or you can have a car payment and waste your money.

Jeep purchase dilemma
I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. I've been looking at 2-door 2010 Jeep Wranglers recently. With a Jeep, I could have fun with it all year round, not worry about it being dirty, no worry about being stuck in snow and not have to worry about pothole season after winter [you Great Lakes state people know what I'm talking about]. I like how the new interior, on-road ride comfort, cabin noise reduction, open hardtop and optional power windows/locks have updated the Wrangler from previous generations. Some people say it has been over civilized, but I do like the convenience of power windows and locks. Now with the 2010 out of production, the 2011 with the updated interior will be hitting dealer lots in a couple of weeks. So that should start bringing prices down on left over 2010's, especially Rubicon models. I do like the 2010 Mountain edition, but I also like the Rubicon model with the stronger drivetrain. Here's my two dilemma's.
Dilemma 1) Should I try to find a deal on a left over Mountain/Rubicon, or wait until the 2011's come out? If I go for a 2010 Mountain/Rubicon, it would have to come with options I would want with no exceptions [Deep water blue, hard top, auto and the power convenience package]. This combo is a little hard to find, however. If I place an order for a 2011 Rubicon, I can get exactly what I want, but would have to wait for it, pay more, and probably miss out on any dealer incentives.
Dilemma 2) Trade in a car or not? (KBB dealer trade-in-value for Car A=$20k on the high end) (KBB dealer trade-in-value for Car B=$10k on the high end). Car A is fully paid off, and Car B will be paid off next year [the bank is getting back with me on how much I still owe on it]. Car A is pretty much a summer only car and I've only put on just under 7,000 miles in four years of ownership. While I love everything about it, I just don't drive it that much [I don't drive it to the mall or Wal-Mart or a grocery store basically]. But it would give me the highest amount on the trade, but I know I will get hit in diminished value and the money I spent on unremovable modifications.
If I trade in Car B, I would be able to keep the other car, but not get as much for a trade; it only has 29k on it and is my daily driver. I would also have a higher loan at the end.
Or the third option would be to trade both Car A and Car B and not owe anything on a brand new 2011 Rubicon and take a huge hit on the loss as well.
Well that's my position. What's your opinion?
