I've definitely thought about it, I just cant afford it right now lol. Just spent $1k on the front end to get this far. I'm tapped on this deal money wise for now, just trying to figure out if I got something I can work with or not.
I just haven't ever heard/read any mention of using the front shaft out of an auto for extra length before.

P.O. installed what I now know are "very old style" Rubicon Express control arms front & rear. Lowers are fixed length only, uppers are adjustable.
The slip joint has just barely enough room to remove the shaft before bottoming out. I'd say 1/2" or so.
I never had any driving issues before (other then the tire vibes I am working on) but when it was put on the alignment machine the caster was so far off we decided to take a look at it.
I'm thinking maybe I should just try to put it back to where it was as it drove, handled, and rode fine. Just bugs me knowing something is way off like that.

|Water Dog||With -2.5° caster you should have had a seriously high pinion angle. On mine with a 4" lift and ultra high tc skid with stock mount I was running a good pinion angle at a little less than 4° caster (before I went to an HP30). I'm using the stock ds. As All Terrain TJ mentioned, what about adjustable lowers?|

I have a 98 with manual trans and 4" lift and my DS works fine. Not sure why the PO installed a longer one.
Is the slip joint on your DS bottoming out? Do you have adjustable lowers? What brand uppers are you using?

using front DS from an auto tj for 4" lift?
Anyone ever heard of using the front drive shaft out of an auto tranny tj to compensate for 4"+ of lift?
Supposedly the P.O. of my jeep installed one as its an inch longer then the front shaft out of a manual tranny tj when the lift was installed??
I think I have some caster angle issues and wonder if this is the cause.
My understanding is I should be at about 5deg pos caster from what I've read. according to my alignment specs I was at negative 2deg. We adjusted the upper control arms but couldn't get any more then about 2.5deg positive due to the drive shaft and running out of adjustment on the arms.
I got some pretty good wandering going on and I am guessing its due to this. Not sure what to do. May need a new front drive shaft to be able to properly adjust caster? Or should I be able to adjust for it? Only have aprox 5 threads left on the arms before they bottom out being too short..
