|vetteguy||Sorry Andrea like I said in my previous quote I don't know any mechanics there I just have good friends in that neck of the woods. They talk about New Bern all the time and when you quoted it I laughed out loud thinking of my friends...Thanks for the laugh.....|

|andreafahy01||Thanks a lot, vetteguy, lol. I'd be willing to tote it to Chocowinity or Washington if I could mesh with an awesome Jeep mechanic. Who can you recommend out there? Anyone that might be on the forums too?|

|vetteguy||New Bern is the problem.. You should have taken it to Chocowinity or Washington...LOL...I only know this part of NC because I have dear friends there and visit often as possible......I honestly know nothing of a decent tranny mechanic there... I hope all turns out well for you....|

|andreafahy01||Yeah, obv. that's what I'll do next go around. I was very adamant to do a diagnostic only, do not do work, do not proceed in any way until we talk. Frankly, I was very clear and he couldn't follow directions. Perhaps he does great work, I'll found out, but there are plenty of options out there! Sadly, this is typical around here of businesses. But def. will keep in mind to point out exactly what you said in your first two sentences. Thing is, I did not have money set aside for this and told him I may likely need 2-3 weeks to put some cash aside. what a turd. lol|

Explain to him that before he gets your jeep again he must understand that communication is why the last mech no longer does work on your jeep. If he wants to keep your business then he needs to understand that before any parts or repairs are done you must be notified first in order to research his answer for legimit cause..Otherwise he will be replaced aswell.
If he wants to keep you as a customer he will comply or look go on without a reg customer..Most reputable mechs will understand and want to keep the repeat customers.

|andreafahy01||Got the call yesterday that my Jeep is ready to pick up, the bill was about $300 higher than we were quoted. I'm excited it's done but not pleased about how he went about it. I totally get it when a job gets more involved and the bill goes up, but there was a total lack of communication.|

I'm giving this a bump in case it wasn't noticed the other day.
I expect to hopefully get my YJ back this week. I guess I'm scared of getting ripped off since I know nothing about transmissions. It was neat the new mechanic saved my fifth gear to show me what was wrong with it. But, is there anything I should ask to be sure my Jeep is being taken care of properly? Is this repair something that typically uses brand new parts or is a mech. likely to use used parts?
Any thoughts/advice on the matter will be greatly appreciated!

YJ Transmission Rebuild
We went by the mechanic shop today (Thurman Service in New Bern) I knew that he was pulling my transmission out only b/c my Dad had been there earlier in the week and commented on my Jeep being there. It's been there since last Friday and we never got a call. So we go in today and "Oh yeah, I needed to call you today; been trying to get a price on your parts all week and then the guy shows up and delivers them today" I was a bit peeved at this and hope it's not his tactic to land a job. I was very clear "I want a diagnostic and a rough estimate, I might have to save $$ before getting any work done; glad to pay for a diagnostic" I'm going to try not to be a brat about it, but I hate to set the pace in this manner with a new mechanic. It's not acceptable by my standards. Communicate with me damn it and don't keep me waiting days on end with nothing going on. That is partly why I left the last guy.
Anyway, Greg said just go ahead with it. They won't get to it till maybe next Tuesday. Here's my lack of automotive knowledge, I'll try to tell you what was wrong, haha. Fifth gear, he had out to show me, it was stripped down looking on one side of the gear. Third gear sounded like it just needed an adjustment. $400 something in parts, and just under a grand he estimates with labor and my transmission should hopefully be in order.
I just hope to have my jeep back before the end of next week, I miss it!
