I am running 285/70/17 duratracs on my 09 wrangler jku and love them they are great for the beach or offroad or even snow. They are very quiet on the road and light as i am still on 3:21 gears. I will be going to 35s soon because i just like the bigger look and am deciding if i wanna go with dick cepeks mud countrys or duratracs again because nittos are just too heavy. I will be upgrading to 5:13 gears but still. Here is a pic.

I have been riding on duratracs for 3 years now and I am very pleased with them, so far have only two complaints.
1. They lose traction on wet pavement, more so than you would think
2. They are wearing down. (Not so mush a complaint- just upset cause they are not cheap).

Thanks Big Fran!
Does anyone have experience with the C load range of the standard 33s vs the D load range of the metric 33s?
That's one of my biggest remaining questions so far. I've read plenty if threads in here about C vs E, but I'm not finding much comparing these two tires (C vs D).

I have the 33x12.50x15 Duratrac's on 15x8 Lever 8 Trackers. The ride is great. The look good and fit with no lift. I was able to turn lock to lock with no rubbing. I did not take it off road so I don't know how much they would rub. Here are pics of them on my 2013 JKU. The first pic is with no lift. The 2nd pic is with a TeraFlex leveling boost kit (pucks). The 3rd pic is them with a TreaFlex 2.5" spring lift.

I think others will know more than I do on this topic - part of why I created this thread (looking for more info from others).
But, to answer your questions, I like the meatier look of the 15" vs 17", yes. Also, I believe the 15" is rated for a different load than the 17. The 17 is rated for heavier load I think. From what I understand, that increases the life of the tire, but also increases road noise and decreases ride quality.
Also, I like the 12.5" width look better than the 11.5 of whatever the other one comes out to.
Does anyone who knows more have anything additional to contribute?

|goose39||question for op - you seem pretty dead-set on the the 15" for the cosmetic effect on the tires. Im looking into 33's also, and I had originally planned on 15's, but after a lot of consideration i was worried the size of the unlimited would dwarf the 15" wheels and decided to go with a 17" (level 8 trackers or zx, cant decide....haha). so is your only motivation for 15's the "bulgy" look on the sidewalls? also, i saw in another thread that you were skeptical about settling for the metric tires on the 17" pintler wheels and preferred the standard 33x12.5x15 tire. Any reason for that? im asking because im also on the market and i want to make sure im not missing anything|

|09sahara||I'm interested I the Duratrac as well but, what is the best size on the stock 09 sahara rim if I want to go up to 33s?|

I'm sorry if you've answered this already. I've been a lurker for 3 years, and tried to research, but I know there's a good chance that I've missed this question before.
I'm a soon to be first time Jeeper :-) I ordered my 2014 Unlimited Sahara 2 weeks back. Now, I'm on the hunt for wheels and tires.
Up until this past week, I had been set on Duratrac 33x12.5x15. From what I've read (over the last 3 years!), this seems like the best tire for my use: daily driver, city and highway driving... mall crawler, *very* occasional and *light* off-road use.
I love the sidewall of a 33" tire on a 15" wheel, and I like the "bulge" of a 12.5" tire on a narrower wheel (like an 8").
With that said, my favorite wheel won't run a 15" tire :-( I've recently decided that I like Pintlers more than Level 8 Trackers. While the Level 8 Trackers would pair wonderfully with the DT 33x12.5x15s, the Pintlers would require the DT 285/70/r17s.
I'm not sure about the lack of "bulge" from the smaller tire height:wheel size ratio of that setup (Pintlers). I'm also not sure about the loss of width in the tire (strictly from a cosmetics standpoint). I'm also not certain about the road noise with the high load rating of the 285/70/r17s vs the 33x12.5x15s.
I'm looking for some input from those who know more than I do. My priorities are cosmetics and ride quality. Off-road capability would be lower down the list. Cost would only factor in if we started taking about thousands of dollars in differences, which I don't think would happen either way. I don't have any immediate plans for a lift - I will stick with 33s for now, and count on "correct" back spacing to compensate for the added size. Remember, I will be a very rare and light off-roader (for now), with 99% usage on city or highway roads.
So, input on 33x12.5x15s mounted on Tracker Level 8s vs AEV Pintlers wrapped in DT 285/70/r17s? Any thoughts/insight/pics/guidance/etc. would be welcomed and appreciated. I have looked to this community over the last 3 years to help me spec out my new Jeep order, so I'd love to hear input from everyone to help me spec out my tires and wheels, too!
If you have other recommendations to throw out, please don't be shy - I am open to ideas!
Thanks in advance.
