Clutch pedal loose?

Not sure how to explain this properly, my clutch pedal seems to have about an inch of play before I can feel it engaging the clutch. Not to say there is an inch before the clutch engages, I mean I can push the pedal down with a finger for about an inch before I feel any resistance. I was wondering if this is a sign of bad things to come or if this is normal.
