dutch169 I like the look of the JK bumper. But from the pics you showed, it doesn't look like it offers a whole lot of protection. Now I'm thinking, if possible, could I take the plastic JK cover and put it on a TJ bumper? I woukd have to make holes for the fog lights but in essence could it work? Nice job on the bumper, wish I could do work like that.

yj-genral yes, and it has two giant holes in it for the fog lights (and not circles), not very appealing unless you fill it in with metal or maybe some lights.

but chopping is necessary because the ends look ridiculous without the plastic

sonofabeach That bumper underneath looks better than I was thinking it would.
I wonder what it would look like if you took the rest of the plastic in the center off. Have you looked under there? Just curious.

JK Stock Bumper Modified

its not just a hack job and its not a custom manufactured bumper, it is however on the cheap, "custom" with a little bit of fab thrown in:

stock bumper pre cut shot: stage1 $0

after the first cuts (center section is held on by bungie cords): stage2 $0

cans are cut off and ground down, little paint for no rust, trimmed the plastic so its not rough on the edges, bolted down center section, dring mount plates fabbed/painted/mounted: stage3 $95 (~$5-bolts, $15x2-drings, $60-plates)

detail shot of the dring mount plates fabbed but Rock Solid Off-Road Fabrication of Apison, TN (got to give Tyler credit for these babies)

all i have left to do is weld on some "end caps" to finish it off, material will be cut from the excess metal trimmed off the ends so there is $0 plus me to weld them on and rattle can to finish.

ill post some detail pics once i get the ends finished up but for less than $100 i have a pretty good custom shorty/stubby bumper
