pokey It's true, they did have a problem with some bad head castings, but in my opinion it was overblown. I think the years affected were '00 and '01. '99 model years weren't affected. (as I recall, mfg dates of 10/99 thru ?) which would exclude '99 model year. Do a search here for more info.

2001 4.0 cracked head

I just purchased my first Jeep its a 2001 4.0 Ive done research and it seems that the years 99-01 have a problem where the heads crack between the second and third cylinder. im not sure of those years but i think thats right. ive read alot about how to see if you have a cracked head and what the signs are. some of them are, loss of coolant or a rise in oil. also when changing the oil which i just did, if it is a milky brown color instead of the usual old black color, that is also a sign that a cracked head is possible. does anyone have advice. im going to be checking on the oil and coolant levels and textures for the next couple of weeks to check. thanks
