I wonder if they would offset the cost or reimburse you for the cost of a real battery. Optima Yellow Top.

That's just it. There's no warning on the '07 to '09 batteries. They work fine, then all of a sudden it is totally shot. It was a pretty common problem that hopefully Chrysler fixed by using better quality batteries. I don't know if they are using the same ones or not. There wasn't the tell-tell dead battery clicking, just a single click from a relay.

jd1980 Yup...it was the battery. Tried jumping it, didn't work. Took it in to get tested - was totally dead. Bought a new one and it fired right up. Thanks everyone. This forum rules.

popstop785 Few months back my 09 did pretty much the same thing. All lights turned on, the radio, the dash, everything. I did notice the clock was reset and then after letting it sit a while I tried to start it and it just barely started. Took it to the dealer (under warranty) and they replaced my battery and I wad good to go. For the life of me I cannot tell you why the battery went bad so fast but I got a new one for free and have been fine since.
It's possible there was more to it but why would the dealer wantto tell me?
Oh well, that's my $.02

Scooter_Trash It's a 2008? Bet your battery is shot. Same exact thing happened to me. Starting fine, went to the store and came out 15 minutes later I had the exact same symptoms you do. I tried to jump it but that didn't work. Took the battery and had it tested and it wouldn't hold a charge at all. The plates in the factory battery suck. Replaced mine with a yellow top about a year and a half ago and no problem since.

GREEN-MACHINE ecm fuse or fan fuse. check them, ask me how i know.

sub308 The clicking could be the starter trying, in that case the battery is probably dead or at least to low to turn the engine over. The battery could still have enough power to run lights and other electronics but not enough to start the jeep. Try turning everything off that you can.

yomondo Is it an automatic? If so, try starting it in neutral. If I remember correctly, that worked for some who had problems with their JK occassionally not starting. But yah, it could be the battery too.

KBR97 The JKs have been known to have some weird starting issues. I remember reading a butt load of threads about the same issue. I have had similar problem before but it always started after 4 or 5 times. Hasn't done it in a long time though.

ESP definitely check your battery terminals. See if there is any corrosion that has formed on them and make sure to clean it off. Grab an old toothbrush and a can of soda and pour a little on the terminal. Let it set for about 1 minute then brush off loose gunk. Also check to make sure they are fitting tight.

tysalem Yeah best advise for now is try to get a jump like Hiker suggested. There is not much else you could do on your own I don't believe.
10-04-2010 10:23 AM
Hiker Don't rule out the battery just because the lights work.. do you have someone who can try giving you a jump start?

Engine won't start - urgent

I have a 2008 Sahara. I turn the ignition to start, the engine clicks and the lights and dash flash, then nothing. the inside light doesn't dim, which I guess suggests the battery is strong? The lightning bolt and engine light both go on in the car.

Could it be the starter? Where is the starter located? I heard banging the starter with a rubber mallet might help. Could it be the anti-theft device?

Sorry this is rushed, but I'm in a hurry. Any help would be appreciated.
