Fapple I always like to pull the drums also. Remove the star adjuster, clean it, and lube it. Star adjusters readjust every time you backup and hit the brakes (in theory only... I don't think they ever really work very well) but if the star adjuster is clean and lubed it at least has a small chance of working. Also to adjust them it is always from down to up on the star adjuster. I'm not sure if that is clear or not. How about this... Put you brake tool (or screw driver) through the slot into the star adjuster and pull down on the handle to adjust.

Good luck,
Frank

Drum Brake Adjustment

When adjusting drum brakes, to move the shoes towards the drum should the star wheel itself be moved up or down? Thanks
