|jadampowell||just spoke with mbrp and they said it moves over about 2-3 inches...they recomend gettimg their heat shield which mounts in the old holes of the evap canister and goes between the evap canister and the new muffler.....sounds easy enough|

I didn't relocate my Evap, course I used a flowmaster 40 instead of MBRP (which are great)
I don't know the measurements of the MBRP, but the Flowmaster cat-back is 9" x 13"

As for damage, the ignition maps are still pretty conservative. As long as you're not a moron, and run the 93 octane map on 86-7 octane, you'll be fine. Towed with mine, and wheeled the piss out of it- no problems.
Also, if something ever DID happen, you can un-flash it, and bring it in with raised palms and the dumb look on your face
As for wires, I have the Granatelli. No real noticable difference except in color. Maybe 0.25 MPG that I can attribute to them, and NO power gain at all. Top end IS noticably smoother, but I can't say anything for power- Mark W.

I just did the 91 octane tune from the 87; I'm running Costco 93 octane fuel.
mpgs are up, more than compensating the difference in price. No ping at all and it is just so smooth now in the hills.
I'm thinking of road-tripping to Flashpaq to hug somebody.

That seems to sum up the basic view from a lot of folks: Anything that doesn't work big changes is ineffective (Jet Chips), whereas anything that works big changes is damaging (Flashpaq). Frankly, that makes a good deal of common sense. If a change is simple, harmless, and low cost, the vehicle would probably be designed that way in the first place. I lack the expertise, however, to know if this is truly a good rule of thumb.

|Davidsjeep||And about the Banks CAI And Exhaust being pricy I agree, I could have gotten a magna flow for a fraction of the cost but I wanted a straight through exhaust, but not so loud that you could never talk while driving. I'm happy with it.|

If all you want is a nice sound, the Edelbrock axleback is a solid setup. $189.99, all stainless construction, and high and tight- exits behind the right rear tire. Unlike most exhausts, it won't catch rocks unless you're doing it very wrong Mark W.|

Last Monday I Got my 2010 Rubicon, Awesome vehicle, Absolutely love it. The day I knew I was for sure going to get this one I ordered a Banks Ram Air CAI, and a Banks Monster Muffler. I got the two for $640 w/ free shipping From XDP Banks Power Stinger System 3.8L ... Installed myself, the CAI took 20 minutes, the exhaust 2 hours. the two together make my Wrangler so much better, it has a little more power, a little better mpg. The feel that you get when you start it up and drive it is great. In Banks own words; The exhaust note is authoritative, yet civil. It is the quietest straight through muffler that I know of, when you're cruising it is not loud at all, when you want to really give it power it sounds great.
I highly recommend getting the Banks Stinger system!!!

Wow--$20k? That makes a near $50k Wrangler without any other mods at all! My 3.8L is looking better and better, at least for the half decade or so . . . .

|MTH||Swap in a Hemi? As in completely replace the engine? That undoubtedly generates more power, though that's a pretty aggressive mod to fix what ain't broken. Anyone know somebody who's done this that could throw out a ballpark number for what that would be expected to cost? I wonder if there's any market upon which you can sell your old engine to recoup some of the cost.|

|thaduke2003||^ Swap in a Hemi, re-gear, or live with the 3.8L. Some have gone the supercharging route, but the fuel/ignition controller is still just a piggyback that occasionally doesn't allow full power for no apparent reason. Not exactly the ideal, in my book- Mark W.|

Well this has been very interesting. So what would be a "forum approved" way to get some more power into a JK? Particularly without substantially increasing the wear on the engine? Jet chips are snake oil, intake/exhaust switches produce only minimal real results, etc. Regearing perhaps?
In truth, with the manual transmission allowing liberal downshifting, I'm happy with what I have (and perhaps should leave well enough alone). I'm just looking for future options if I feel like giving it a boost.

^ That, stick and jbird, is called, as ncossey said, the placebo effect. DYNO tests (not butt dyno, but Mustang dyno) have shown that the gains are small enough with an intake and exhaust on a standard 3.8L to be inconclusive. There is a torque loss down low (under 3,500 RPM), and maybe 1-4 WHP gain up top (over 4,500 RPM). NOT worth the $500+ you'll spend!
As for improved fuel economy, MAYBE 1/4 MPG. Again, NOT worth the $500+.
The ONLY reason to change out the exhaust is to gain clearance. That's why I did mine. As for the intake, only if you're running a snorkel Mark W.
