Ted_D I bought the Savvy. Dave@rokmen wouldn't answer my pm's here so I decided to spend my money elsewhere.

Jerry Bransford X2 on the recommendations to go with Savvy's aluminum skidplate. It's lighter than steel yet is more than strong enough to hold up to anything you can throw at it. It is well proven to survive even the infamously tough various Hammers trails in Johnson Valley Calif.

I have hammered mine on the rocks so hard at times that it hurt my teeth but have so far only managed to scratch it.

DevilDogDoc Don't know about the rokman but the Savvy comes with new SS straps plus all the nuts and bolts that you need. Even has new clips for the fenderwell liners and zipties for your lines.

airborne*yj I agree, I had the same problem with my YJ. I'd go with the Rokmen or the Savvy...

withay Replace the straps when you replace the skid. Trust me. And I got a skid that someone had taken off, in good condition, for $45 an put it on in about an hour. Have the gas tank as empty as you can, and don't let it hang from the lines. And, replace the straps. Trust.

IndyJeepMan either or, as long as you are beefing up protection you are good to go. I personally cant afford the extra for aluminum so steel hits my wallet in the sweet spot and keeps me safe!

DevilDogDoc Or you can get one that weighs only a little more than the stocker, provides just as much protection as that heavy steel one and raises the tank up 1-2 inches depending on if you have a body lift or not. Savvy Offroad and you get a guarantee that if it fails you get a new one.

UnlimitedLJ04 go with a Savvy or Rokmen gas tank skid.

You can order online,
Rokmen - TJ/LJ Gas Tank Skid Plate

or by phone: 303-907-6303
They came stock and the skid plate is what holds your tank on.
The deal above on a skid is a really good one.

One thing you need to be careful of when dropping your tank is to NOT let the lines pull on the fuel pump, it's plastic, fragile and will break, costing in the $275 range for a new pump.

Gas tank skid plate

Hello, I just had a few quick questions about my gas tank skid plate. My skid plate is in poor shape from the previous owner. It has some large holes completely rusted trough and flaking along with large sections of the tank exposed. I would like to in the near future, hopefully replace this to prevent some serious damage to my tank.
Is my skid plate the only thing holding my tank up or is the tank somehow strapped to the bottom of my jeep?
Did the skid plate come stock with the TJ or is that an aftermarket part?
