JDsDream I have an 06 and my 31" spare fit the stock mount without any alteration at all. It is snug under the light but easily removed and replaced. What psi do you have in your spare? That could make a difference.

mattyd Yup, I got that part on the home made version..it works but not 100% happy. It keeps the tire out away from the rubber bumpers on the tailgate so there is more movement of the tire as it is not "grounded" against anything. Don't get me wrong, it works... just would rather snug the tire down against the rubbers stops.

mjc0760 Check out this product if you want something pre-fabbed... more expensive than a DIY version, but not too bad at ~$40 (+s&h, I'm sure). I found it on one of my online "Jeep stuff" excursions... I wonder how much time I spend doing that... a topic for another thread, I guess.

mattyd Not sure of the legalities of removing the third light if it came from the factory that way and see no need to give Johnny Law one more reason to pull me over.

Are the three bolts that you bolt the tire to just pressed in the bracket? Anyone remove these? If these were longer then I could just put a half inch spacer on and be good to go.

Ray-San : The pvc spacer idea may be my ticket. Not sure I see a need for the aluminum piece. Seems like your dogs like the back of your jeep pretty much like mine! Every time I go out to work on it or clean it...she hops in the back like she is saying...."hurry up and get done what you are doing...lets go for a ride!"

J10 Its very snug I air it down bolted it on and filled it back up. Probably not the best but it worked at the time. Making a cheap spacer out of some 3/8-1/2" metal plate would work well to give you that bit of extra room to make it fit without being too snug

Ray - San Jose Cut PVC spacers, and get longer bolts. You can raise the light up to clear. I'm running the stock 3rd brake light with a 33" spare

You can just see the grey PVC spacers. Also the shiny bit is 1/2" aluminum spacer to adjust for the extra width from 9.5 to 10.5 tires.

how to modify to fit 31's on spare tire mount?

ok- got new tires for the heep this week. Have an '06 TJ. Kept my factory wheels and went with 31 x10.5x 15's. Problem is with the spare. It won't mount on the spare tire bracket due to contact with the third brake light piece. What have you all done to circumvent this problem. I have a quick cobbed up bracket on now to space the tire out but not happy with this as a long term solution. Thanks!!!
