|Scottdog||I have the tools to test it far better than AutoZone can. Cold or hot it is working fine. There is plenty of spark.|

|AzTJ||Not untill they get hot I'd take it off and over to an AutoZone and have them hook it up to one of thier testers and run it a couple dozen times. If they get too hot they fail. But once they cool down they'll work like normal.|

|Scottdog||Module tests fine. Plenty of spark.|

|AzTJ||Wait, what about the Ignition Control Module?|
|06-21-2007 09:45 PM|
|AzTJ||if it can start and run, the PCM should be fine... but damn, this is a tuffy.|
|06-21-2007 09:43 PM|
You never want to jump to the PCM but I'm leaning in that direction. Expensive part to be throwing at it without knowing for sure. It's like it forgot how to control the engine when it exits cold mode.
Unfortunately the local junk yards don't have one in stock. They would let me borrow it if they did.

|AzTJ||oh yeah - forgot about that.... damn I donno. Thats a stumper|

|Scottdog||Pump is in the tank. Pump runs and produces the required pressure. Injector sprays as well. It won't run on an alternate fuel source either.|

Hmm... is the fuel pump in the tank or inline? It might be clogged along with the fuel filter.
After the jeep shuts down, try turning the key to the on position a couple of times and then try to restart it. If it doesn't start up I'm thinking it might be the pump.

No chugging. Runs as if all is nomal then just shuts down.
Charging system is fine. Plenty of voltage.

|AzTJ||So no chugging when it runs? Hmm...there may be spark, but hows the chargin system(Alt & Battery)?|
|06-21-2007 08:16 PM|
|Scottdog||When it does the 10-15 thing, it runs well. When it goes into the no start mode, sometimes it fires up for a second and quits. Sometimes it just cranks. The fuel pump runs and produces proper pressure. It won't run on carb cleaner either.|

When you say no-start, does it die on you or just wont start up after you've shut it off? Hows it running after you start it up?

|Scottdog||Thanks for the welcome. Hope I find some insite soon. With the 2.5 being so uncommon, components are too exspensive to throw at it on a maybe. No choice but to recommend the customer take in elsewhere at this time. Hate to loose the billable job.|

Newbie - 2.5 Liter Blues
Newbie to the forum here. The name is Scottdog. I am a sole owner/operator of a small auto and motorcycle repair shop in Connecthedots. I have come to your forum because I have a 1989 2.5 liter Wrangler that is just kicking my ass. Every morning or so it will start and run for about 10-15 minutes then go into a no-start condition. It is getting spark and fuel. The PCM communicates with a scan tool and all the engine controls report values that are in spec. Timing has been confirmed with a visual at the distributor and chain set. Any suggestions?
