I told them a friend of mine who was a police officer said they were not required. They said they wouldn't pass it unless the were there, visible from the side, and amber in color. I went home and zip tied them on literally just hanging down. It looked terrible but drove it back over and they passed it. The lights have since been removed again. Don't understand why when TJ owners remove the stock flares and milk jugs it's the same thing?
I suppose this is true. It can also be the actual inspector. When I worked in a shop, I saw an inspector fail a vehicle for the horn being... wait for it.... "too loud". This "ruling" was later reversed and the vehicle was passed. So, it probably just mattered on who did the inspection. And as John stated, a smaller mom & pop shop probably wouldn't have said anything about it.

johnwj Wish I could. I'll be in the area but it'll be because I'm at work

That's kinda what I'm thinking. Are you joining up for wheeling Sunday?

It may also have been the inspection location. I seem to have had better success with hole in the wall mom and pop type inspection places.

That's not that far. I went about 13 hours away to Kentucky two years ago, to go wheeling with some members from here.

meh, no different to me than making a trip to uwharrie or some of the other 3-4 hour trips i've taken to wind rock or callante

to be fair though, some of those return trips can get interesting with new noises or with your steering wheel having rotated around to a new position
