NV3550 Transmission/no 2nd

whats up everyone i have an 03 TJ X, I was leaving a stop going left from first to second and when i hit second it kinda popped when i let the clutch out my second was gone its just like neutral... i can sit at an idle and slip it into second with no clutch and still nothing although there is a little bit of grind when every couple of times i do that, was only doing that to see if i could feel anything..
Anyone know what might be wrong?
someone told me to pull the top off and check the linkage but i did that and there's no linkage to be seen..

Thanks for any suggestions
