ColdSRT Remote starts are no problem on a manual. They are safe as well. It does take more user thought than an auto but there are simple electronic devices in place that must all be satisfied before the vehicle will try to start. So if you forget a step your vehicle will simply not start vs turning it into a deadly weapon. This was not always the case with older remote starts. I have personally seen a high end mercedes jump into a ditch because it was left in gear.

JakeRupp I had remote start on my last car. It was a manual. Just was the biggest pain because there are so many things to do i just quit doing it.

But since you want to know it was like:
Engage clutch, put in neutral, pull ebrake, open door, turn off engine, release clutch, get out and close door, and hit lock. Idk if all are that complex but mine was. Didn't help the guy that installed it did janky work.

galaxyblur On a slight tangent, also consider your reason for wanting a remote start: modern vehicles do not need to be "warmed up", unless it's for your own comfort in having a toasty vehicle to climb into.

rics1997 The only safe way to do it is if there was a neutral switch telling the unit you were in neutral before it would try to start. Then as many stated you would then have to bypass the clutch safety switch. I love remote start but see to many problem added it to a manual that engineers didn't design specifically for that vehicle.

2010WranglerMountain it can be done to a manual. it takes a little bit of wiring ingenuity. a co-worker of mine put one in a honda civic. you have to get a relay to bypass the clutch safety switch in order for the vehicle to actually start. the only issue with this is that you CANNOT leave it in gear. as Hans said, you could go through a garage door or whatever else, or end up like my co-worker and get hit by your own car....true story, he was in the hospital for weeks. lmao.

HansB I have a manual too and when High-Country 4x4 was building up my jeep, they mentioned the remote start and then..."oh, forget it, you've got a manual". I would think you'd be asking for trouble. Forget once to leave it out of gear with the handbrake only and you could go through a garage door, hit another car, etc. etc.

iamagolfspaz I like to leave my JK in first when its parked. So a remote starter wouldn't work to well for me.

Hi All,

Has anyone installed a remote starter on a manual transmission ?

Is it a drag to set ?
