All 4.0 engines in Wranglers are H.O. since first introduced in the '91 model year. Prior to that, the engine was a 4.2 and did not have the H.O. designation.
H.O. was a designator given by Jeep to denote the difference between a 4.2 engine and a 4.0 engine... nothing more.

4.0 from 92 and up are H.O. From 92 and lower they are just normal 4.0s

|payj90||i do beleive all 4.0 are high output, i think they changed something in the head to make it 4.0. it is the same block as the 4.2. id say yes it is ho|

|George T.||I have a 94 high output and it says it right on the back under the 4.0L badge... so i would say if it doesnt say it, it isnt. ::shrugs::|

YJ 93 4.0L HO or non-HO ?
a friend has a 93 YJ 4.0L and wants to order some parts.
is it a HO or a non-HO? i think it must be a HO, am i right?
