I agree, it gets really old. You have to admit having a little nickname for a JEEP sounds stupid, why don't the others have names like "harry's" or "exy's? Because it sounds totally stupid, just like "rubi" sounds stupid. Who else has little nicknames for there vehicles, Caddy's, Beamers. Think about the owners of these cars who actually use these names, probably the ones paying rent for a apartment, not the ones paying cash for there vehicle. Pretty sad when peoples think they are important in this world because of what they drive.

I would also recommend leaving it stock for a little bit to see what you'd like to change.

JeeperCreeper11 All my point was is that he shouldnt be giving the guy crap about choosing the jk and jeeps are for off road fun in the mud. If he was wanting to flex his muscle on speed buy a sports car and talk about speed on that forum. Hope this makes my point more clear.

Robbish87 You guys are so lame. This is a forum about jeeps, don't like the JK? Leave the JK forum. Nobody wants to hear people try and make themselves sound cool with their racing cars(which probably dont exist)and 1000's of horsepower and who's faster. We are here to talk jeep and that's that. Take the childish racing crap elsewhere.

Oh yeah, well I'm putting a jet engine on my JK. Hows it gonna feel to get blown away by a 4 door.
/urinating contest

Anyway... nice lookin' rig!! I'd drive it for a little while stock until you know exactly what you want to do. No rush. I think I'd stay away from the body lift.

Beautiful rig man. congratulations, and like the others said, wheel it stock a few times to see what you like and don't like about it, and mod it accordingly after that.

Then you should probably leave the JK section and stop posting here.

As an initial matter, you're factually wrong. More importantly, however, the JKs and TJs aren't in a competition. A Jeep is a Jeep and, from what I've seen, they're all welcome on this forum.

I'm not a mod here and have no authority. But I can tell you that the reason you don't see a lot of people flaming each other's Jeeps here is because it's not warmly received.

If you don't like the JK, that's fine. It's good actually, because you don't own one.

He already got the X.

Congrats on the jeep
I would recommend driving it stock for awhile and enjoy it. Your stock X will handle itself just fine for the trail riding you plan to do, as well as daily driving. Consider your upgrades carefully and do plenty of research first.

millfire517 I'm trying to figure out what to do for a lift on this thing. Should I go with a 1"BL and a 2.5 Suspension lift or should I go with a 3.5" lift. And would 305/70/16 look good with a total of 3.5 lift? Anything else I would need to do to make this road worthy? Then down the road will be bumpers, winch, and lockers.
01-25-2011 05:57 PM
millfire517 If I remember correctly it was about 16,400

John412 The extra half inch or inch gain on clearance on tires is useless compared to the performance down grade you will receive. Not sure if I worded that correctly. Look into some basic armor first as that will serve you much better that bigger tires. If you just want bigger tires for the look than go for it but your speedo will be off you will lose power and add wear. What may seem like alittle is actually alot when it comes to wear on your Jeep. You will be happy with the JK as long as you are not expecting a luxury SUV as your purchase. A stock JK off roads with the best of them when outfitted properly and does well as a DD.

DodgeM37 I got my 2007 4x4 JKU X 6 speed back in 08 with 12k miles for $17,800, down from the $21,900 price the dealership was asking. I had a few things in my favor.
1. It was October so demand for convertibles was low.
2. Gas had just hit $4 per gallons
3. I did not have a trade-in, if you have one, sell it yourself if you can.
4. Have your financing already arranged through your local bank.
5. Use Edmunds.com, they list trade-in value, private seller price, and dealer price. Offer trade-in value but if you get it at private seller price you have done well.
6. Use Autotrader.com, I carried in two printouts of similar jeeps priced around $17k located about 180 miles away. I told the dealer I wanted to deal local, plus I wanted red, the color they had.
7. Be willing to walk away, I was on the way out the door, I had offered $17k they were at $19,100. Not wanting to lose a sale they countered $17,300 plus their $500 service fees (which is BS). But I thought it was a fair price.

millfire517 OK I know the JK will need tires this summer, what would you guys recommend being my first mod. I want to run atleast 305/70/17 tires. I might talk the wife into letting me spend a grand on it this year. on top of the tires

CMEvans79 Go Rubi ... getting the X to where the Rubi is would cost too much that you could put into the Rubi ...
01-24-2011 07:05 PM
Johnny HotFoot I would vote you buy the newest, lowest milage Jeep.... in this case the JK

Nuff said! nailed it on the head! BRAVO,BRAVO! 60,000 mile jeep for 18990.00 when you can get new for a little more.

John412 If you dont plan on doing any real wheeling other than occasional fun the JK hands down. Have you drove both Jeeps? I drive a TJ and JK regularly. There is no comparison and while a TJ rubi is better suited for off road stock your stock JK is like having a 3 inch lifted TJ on 33's so keep that in mind. I personally would spend slightly if any more and get a 2010 left over like some have said.
01-24-2011 05:58 PM
millfire517 I guess I do plan on getting maybe 33's and lockers eventually in the diffs, and probably a winch.
01-24-2011 05:57 PM
millfire517 Well It will be a daily driver but I am going to try to make it to places like Badlands and may do some other wheeling. Not really into mud but would love to do trail rides, but nothing where I would need a rear dig or rear steer. Just the normal occasional stuff I might face while meeting new Jeepers.
