|crh1109||ooooooh, tough choice. I would recommend my Kumho KL 71's but I haven't taken them offroad yet, and I don't think they come in anything larger than 33. I did see soem toyo open country m/t today, and they look bad a$$. The side bite on them is about a 3/4" lug. They looked pretty mean. But its all about what the trail says...|

I HATE throwing money away!! I guess I should ask what the pros/cons are of each, short/long arms?

All I'm going to suggest is when picking between long arm and short....decide once. Spending money twice isn't the way to do it unless you like throwing money away.

|crh1109||I have brand new 33's now, would a 4.88 still be a good idea? I would love to up grade the suspension to a long arm, but the coin required for that seems a bit steep.|

6" of lift is huge for 35s. 4.88s are what you want for 35s. Dana 44 the rear, upgrade the shafts in the 30, toss some bead locks at it and some good tires and go play.
As for suspension systems, you can't go wrong with the DPG OFFROAD super ultimate kit for short arms. For long arms there are tons of options. Toss some armor at the thing and let's go play!!

|crh1109||Tires are probably the biggest question mark I have!! I don't see 37's on it, prob 35's would be the largest I want to go. I don't see more than a 6" lift on this vehicle. I will probably keep this jeep a DD and 37's seems a little rediculous to be wasting on pavement. If it was less than 3 hrs to the closest trails I might have a different opinion. I realistically don't see a v8 swap, so I think a D44 rear and locking the front D30 might be the most realistic route.|

|RBatman||My heep is a DD as well with over 220k miles on it and I run D30/D44 axle combo with 4:88 gears and ARB lockers front and rear. Stock motor has treated me very well and turns the 35" KM2's just fine down the highway. I consider my Jeep a capable trail rig and reliable DD. Just something to look at...|

|ilmjumper||I will say, something that's helping me decide what I want to do is getting up with all the Jeeps/4x4 clubs and go meet up with them, hang out and check out everyone's ride. And if you see any that look like what you like go ask them what they've got, how it drives, ect. Helps to actually SEE what it's gonna look like The tj picture thread is also great!|

|crh1109||Thanks, these are exactly the questions I don't know that I need to ask, I would definitely like to see what you (and others) have done to their junk. Thats the main reason for my questions is to get a bunch of different ideas and filter out what I think I want to do|

It all comes down to what you want. Do you want full width axles, or stock? Do you want a lower t-case ratio, or are you content with what you have. The biggest thing in regards to your drive line you need to decide on is the v8 swap, if you do it, it will require a transmission and unless you do a hemi, a tcase as well. It really comes down to what you want out of your Jeep, I would say head over to pirate and start reading what others have done, and see what is is you want to do, then go from there.
Edit: if all your going to run is a 35" tire, I'd say just copy a lot of what I've done to my junk, with your own twist, which your more than welcome to come by and check it out now that it isn't freezing and in the middle of a parking lot at night

I think I am ready to start looking into upgrading drivetrain components. But I'm not sure what the best order to do them in and what the best configurations would be. I want to keep the junk a capable daily driver, but also a capable trail rider. I probably won't ever take it up some 20 ft wall or anything crazy like that. But I want to get stronger axles, lockers ( I think I'm set on ARB) and maybe transfer case, and at the end a V8 swap. I'm sure I need to get an SYE and CV drive shaft, what would be the next item(s) I should be looking for??
My ideas are:
Rear - D60 or Ford 8.8 - unknown gear ratio, maybe 4.56? (I probably won't go over 35" tires, maybe 37" maximum) and Lockers. Is there any benefit to doing a disk brake conversion?
Front - D44 - matching gear ratio and lockers and beef up the steering components
Transfer case - ??????? what are pro's/con's of changing , or do I need to?
Finally, V8 - whats the optimal engine for this? Do I need to change Transmissions?
I know there are alot of different questions in this, and I expect about 301 different opinions, but any and all input will be absorbed!! AND basically, if anyone knows where I can get cheap(er) used items, it would be much appreciated.
