Grzzly I only have the Freedom top at this point. I will be purchasing the Trektop NX when avail. That appears to be the best option, and I will not have to tilt the rack to put up the soft top. In addition, there is plenty of room available to remove the hardtop without moving the rack.

vekrause I have seen a post from someone else with the Congo Cage. They found nuts you could turn by hand, not sure of the right term for them. This simplified tilting the cage,

BigEZ well, it would definitely slow you down. I suppose if you keep a ratchet handy it wouldn't be too bad. Do the JKs have torxes in the front window hinge like a TJ?
any way you slice it any roof rack will impede putting up a soft top. at least with a JK you could slip those freedom top panels in under the roof rack rails w/o having to disco the rack.

Sorry, 2dr JK. Anyone have a quick-disconnect for the rack? Seems like removing bolts, etc. is going to slow down the top up/down on the side of the highway as the rain or sun rolls.

BigEZ thanks for posting that- the rear mounts for the jk are different than the TJ, which have shorter rear support posts and brackets which bolt to the sheet metal behind the tail light assembly; which of course will be problematic if/when I wanted to go to flat tail lights. Plus being bolted to sheet metal it's not super strong, IMO.

Seeing your post makes me think I can either fab or order the extended bumper brackets used on the jk.

thanks again

Grzzly Here is a picture of my Kongo Bars w/Yakima cross bars and Yakima rollers and beds.

BigEZ OK. that's my set up. I have thule cross bars with a smittybuilt safari basket cage sitting on top of my on top of my congo rack. they work fine.

vekrause Sorry for the confusion, currently have the Congo Cage, and that's it, no basket or rails. I guess a better question might be has anyone placed another brand of basket up top with the Congo Cage. My general goal is to be able to haul things (beach chairs, cooler, general hardware store runs) so some sort of basic would be preferred.

BigEZ not clear on your post - do you just want lateral cross bars, width cross bars, or a whole basket? thule lateral bars can be had on CL pretty cheap, also lotsa used baskets floating around on CL...but if you want a new basket if you keep an eye out you might get a new smittybuilt for less than 250.

if you mean he kept the bars that go front-back, they're 60/bar direct from cargomaster. Or I'm sure you can find straight pipe, and have at it w/ a sawzall and drill and make it work with bolts.

bobjenkins Jeep stuff is so pricey . The Congo rack is I think like 300? Unless you can weld you're not gunna find much cheaper . Do yourself a favor and look used on CL. I bought a garvin trail rack for 300

Kargo Master Congo Cage

The PO had the Congo Cage put on to haul his kayaks (and kept the cross bars). The safari rack is a bit pricey. Anyone have any suggestions? Limited to what I can wrench, as I am welderless, and would probably set the garage on fire if I had one.
