On my Ford 8.8 I lincoln locked the spiders. Then I would find an excuse to take sharp turns at my usual gas station. Until I got stopped by a cop for "excessive speed"
I had to explain to him that I wasn't sqwauking my tires and that it was an "off road" thing. He made me pull around the corner to verify I wasn't giving him the run around.
So, welding your rear = dumb!!

welded on it w/ out the shield down, only for a second, but never again!!!!!!!!!!

|skeeter||In Amy's old YJ we were crossing a river and it looked cool so we stopped to get a picture of the water flowing all around us. As Amy was adjusting the camera I noticed things felt a little odd, the water was washing the sand out from under the tires and slowly tipping us over, we barely got moving again.|

ive taken my jeep out drunk a few times and regretted it..
once got it stuck while reversing out of a trail i found.. i came to a dead end about 5 miles off the road lol.. we ended up getting 3 trucks stuck trying to make it back to my stock jeep =X everything else just sank because it path ran along a creek.. ended up spending like 4 hours digging it out with shovels and using a come-along to wench it out.. then drove right through the areas the trucks got stuck at.. made my friends highly modded chevy look bad =D
another time i tried to extend paths like moz and definately tore up my front passenger side fender.. and ripped off 4 fog lights =X..

|Joe Dirt||I'd have to say, letting my 16 yr old son drive it to work. He promptly got into a wreck. Thank goodness he and the Jeep didn't get hurt bad. He wasn't used to driving it.|

I did a bunch of 4Lo wheel stands on my slanted driveway with a Dana 35 and some 30" ATs with my 97. I also beat a turbo MR2 in a parking lot to 50 mph using 4Low in my 97.
I blew a lot of rear ends in that Jeep.. Poor thing...
Stupidest thing in this Rubi? Second day I had it, me and Penguin_in_a_CJ and my GF and another friend took it out wheeling. Saw a mud hole and without even thinking about wheeling (hadnt been wheeling in 2 years) said "LETS TRY THE 4:1 and THE LOCKERS!! WAHHOOOO!!!"
I made it about 3 feet and had to have a dodge diesel yank me out. Wheel speed it the key with mud. In 1st/4Low I was moving 3 mph in sandy/suction mud. That was ingenious

|bluvikng||HkdOnJP, small tip when on sand, pea gravel, etc. If you air down to about 12-15 lbs. of air, you can idle across. That would really impress your boss........|

|HkdOnJP||i was at work when day when it was slow im a dog trainer. i had no classes or anything and me and my boss are pretty cool he is a truck guy so he is constantly giving me shit about slow my jeep. after never being in it. so this day he goes take me for a ride so im cruisin through the parking lot and around the back when we find a pit filled with pea gravel and i thought my jeep can do it right as he said to bad we dont have a real 4x4. so i puffed my chest out and buried myself in pea gravel. about 3/4 up the wheels then my boss made fun got his truck and pulled me out. then he said do it again with a little more power which ended up with me launching myself into the pit bouncing into it and getting 3/4 of the way through he pulled me out again. and i decided to quit but im goin back when i get the 6cyl and 33's. i found pea gravel for the next three weeks i still i have some under my seat.it was fun...|

OK, I've got a good one. This involved my '65 CJ6 back in the late 80's. The theme for this one is Do Not use your Jeep as a chainsaw.
A gang of us use to hang out and go off-roading in the hills by our houses on a regular basis. The weekends were a time to get away from the parents and booze it up without attracting the attention of the local constabulatory types.
We got bored with the trails that were developed through the years so every once in a while we would make new ones. Sometimes we used chainsaws and sometimes we just used the Jeeps themselves to plow through the foliage. On one Easter afternoon, after a few too many cold ones, a few of us decided to create an extension to an exisitng trail.
I was running point at the time and had managed to blaze a good 300 yards of new trail though some very thick brush when I came upon an old - but thoughly dead remains of a tree. There was no getting around it as there was a swamp to the left and large trees to the right. It was either go forward or retreat. In my mind, retreat was not an option and I did not have my chainsaw so I had to improvise.
The old tree was about 25 feet tall by 1 foot wide at the base and was completely hollowed out. I felt I really had a good chance I could knock it down so I started to drive up on it and the old tree began to rock back and forth.
I was working on that old tree for about 10 minutes. Jogging back and forth, slamming it every chance I had and then all of a sudden it busted in half and fell back onto the Jeep. A huge 10 foot section came crashing down and landed on the roll bar and the light bar frame.... A very close call indeed and I should have stopped there, but I didn't.
I continued to work on the remains of the tree and was eventually able to get the entire trunk to break off close enough to drive over it... YAHOO .. I made it!!! I kept driving for about 20 feet before I realized I had no steering control so I stopped. After a quick inspection, I realized my steering control arm was snapped in half.....but I did manage to beat the tree so I won right?
We had to hike out 3 miles, borrow a car and drive 90 miles to south Jersey to get a replacement part, drive back 90 miles, hike back 3 miles with a tool box and replace the control arrm in the mud .....

Ice Storm we had this past winter:
Looked like an ice skating ring but it was pay day and I had bills to pay,instead of waiting til noon when dirt/salt and sun would have melted some of it.
I'm thinking hell,I have a Wrangler I can make it,the bank is 10 minutes from my house,it took me almost 45 minutes to get there.Because every darn corner someone had slid into someone else,had to make detour after detour and drive 5 miles an hour with my heart in my throat.
But the Wrangler made it and I will not do that again..........well not until the ice kinda melts....................

I'll Bite...In the TJ I Got frustrated with traffic, gunned it a bit hard and flexed the suspension on a hard left turn. Front left wheel came off the ground and the right rear squatted. I felt a sharp pain in my leg where OC dug her Nails in and discovered (after I got our rig under control) that I was close to getting run over by a dump truck.
On my other rigs in the past, before I decided it is funner to wheel and not repair then to have your rig torn down all the time. Cherokee Chief ended up on its roof in a river. Ripped the bed and the axle/driveshaft off of the Ranger. F150 shattered a rear spring. To many stupid things to list.

I put my 8 month old Rubicon on its side at midnight on a trail with 8 on the most experienced guides that you could find standing around saying "no one has ever rolled here, just give it another shot"! Should have seen the looks at the hotel when I rolled back into the parking lot!

|crafty||I'll go first. Noticed a State Park on the way to a funeral. Checked it out on the way home while still in dress clothes in heels. Needless enough to say I sunk on the lake bed / boat launch area. A HUGE farm tractor had to pull me out|
