spearhunter_1 Ahhh...I see. Kind of rolls the axle out so the vertical centerline of the wheel is slightly forward of it's attaching point, forcing it to return to center on it's own. Good info...thanks for the link. I'll be installing my lift this coming weekend, so I'll now go into it with a little more info.

Yeah the pic has the shim in the wrong place. The explaination I got was the shims on the front are used to correct the caster. Here's a write up on it.

The shimmed leafs are the front, no shims came on the rear. When I took of the old leafs I could tell there were some shims in there although they were totally rusted out and crumbling so no way of determining how they were sitting in there.

I have since installed the lift with the shims installed thick end forward and there appears to be no ill effects. The wheel returns to center as it should and it tracks perfect. Probably could have gotten away w/o using them but I figure they put them on there for a reason.

AzTJ rear is more important because of the super short drive shafts that Wranglers have in the rear... need that pinion angle to be good for no vibes

that kind of odd on my re kit it came with shims for the rear and none for the front ??????? and the shim are over the springs not under them so the fat end would face the transfer case .......i think ...uuuhhhh....mabey

Front axle shims

OK, I'm getting conflicting feedback on this. I recently purchased a Black Diamond 1.5" lift kit. The front springs came with shims installed and the thick end towards the front, shackle end. Installed this way it would point the pinion angle towards the ground.
This doesn't make sense to me, isn't the point to raise the pinion side (rear) of the axle up to reduce the angle of the driveshaft? If so than the thick end should be towards the rear of the spring (main eye side). Remember this is for the front axle. FYI, the rear springs didn't come with any shims. If someone can help me understand this I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance for your help.
