kicker84 WOW.....The same thoughts have beening through my head today because I have 2 great danes I have to haul around too. Random. You get a bunch of looks with 300 pounds of dog in the back of a jeep don't you?

PTaylor I didn't see what any info pertaining to your current setup. Did your vehicle come with a center console speaker?

There have been several suggestions and tried and true experiments with center concole speaker replacement. Some have bought a cheaper one and installed. Some have purchased more expensive units, some are running from the factory built in amp (TJ series, not sure about others) some are pushing that with an after market amp. Some are pushing all speakers with after market amp.

the typical size I've seen mentioned and installed is a 6 1/2 " speaker, shallow mount type. I've heard of someone installing 8" and 10" shallows in that space, but they do have to give up a few things, such as the center storage itself.

It depends on what type of music you listen to, and how clear you want your music of that type.

I purchased a kicker compVT 6.5 shallow mount for about $50 brand new, and recently upgraded to a small, cheap power amp to push it. All in all, $100 bucks spent. I removed the original speaker and amp, left the enclosure, and installed the speaker into that. My small amp is under my seat so it is out of the way and get's proper air flow. It's low power, like 300W or so, and I'm not driving it hardly at all. The range of noise (Frequency) I listen to is great for it.

now, something like rap, or something with very low base or "boom", that's where you need to pay attention and that's where they draw their power and knowing freq. response is needed.

The kicker is ok, hell of a lot better than stock and much much better than not having a center speaker. The center speaker just makes the biggest difference to me. Installation was a snap, very little modding was done.

I'm not trying to sell you on it, again, it depends on what type of music you listen to and how much "thump" you are looking for.How much money you are going to spend. I love my cheap little set up, works for me. My son hates it, it sounds like crap with his music.

suggestion: My son had been borrowing my jeep, and had put his speaker box on the back seat, along with his power amp.
It was ALL stolen out of my yard. gone, period.

A few grand easy.
If you are going to put some money into such things, check with your insurance company, see what they cover, your deductible, what they will replace, etc..... also your home owners insurance. We had some issues with what the auto insurance would cover and what home owners would cover.

Take pictures of everything, making sure you have serial numbers. do not leave them on your phone, like my fool son did, or on your computer. Print them off and keep them in a place you can get them and no one else can.
If you can, take a paint marker and put some type of marking somewhere you only know of and document that. Might want to look into an alarm.

Again, just my suggestion.....

I've found it's very hard to get something back that belongs to you once you've lost possession. The laws are truly for the criminals.

I bought a set of alpine, lemme find the link.....here is the link from crutchfield, but I bought them on amazon for 1/2 the price.
I chose them for the price, the rubber surround woofer and silk tweeters, and then the power ranger & frequency. I had already installed the alpine iDA-X305S with my stock speakers, and it sounded much better than stock....but after adding the new speakers I was shocked how much better it got.
Still musing over the center console woofer...for now I am fine with the sound, but I am thinking once I am topless in the summer I will need a little more kick. HTH

G-Pur maybe you could make this work for you.

Intra-Pod Sound System Jeep Wrangler YJ

NHrubicon My 03 rubicon came stock with 2 speakers (1 on each side) of the console, sounds great...and if you crank up something with heavy bass, like Blue Man Group...you can make one cheek of your butt go numb...
if you cut into the BACK of the console you will be right into the storage compartment...easier to go into (and down) the sides of it. Or just pick up a salvage or replacement console for rubicon TJ that already has the openings for you...

TjTheo Its been done before, do some searching on google and stuff. Some tjs came stock with a sub in the center console.

anyone cut out center console to installer subwoofer?

Just curious. I would like a subwoofer, but the space factor is a killer. I have 2 great danes than need every inch of space to ride in the back. I'm willing to give up the center console storage. Has anyone tried to cut a hole in the back of the console & put a sub? I just put new speakers in and made new holes in the sound bar, I think I could put a hole in anything with this dremel, haha. Thoughts?
