stussy5555 This is definitely not my life savings, my daily driver is a Jaguar XFR, not bragging, but just letting you know its not a huge purchase for me

The guy who owns the Jeep is a small Jeep dealer, where he does Jeep restoration, mainly on Scramblers.

Here are the details of the Jeep:
1983, original metal body
38" Nitto Grapplers, less than 200 miles on them
Painted 4 months ago, Dodge Viper Red
Ford Cobra V8, 4.6 engine, with great compression
Ford AOD transmission, auto with overdrive, rebuilt 1 year ago
Klune underdrive, Goliath with 122 to 1 ratio
Custom lift kit
60" wide wagoner wide front axle
Dana 44 front end
Dana 60 rear end (front and rear have same bolt pattern)
Heavy duty steel roll cage, not hollow
Custom steel front bumper
Custom steel rear bumper with air reserve built in
Interior has all custom gauges and center console
Xenon flares, flexible, rubberized
ARB air lockers, front and rear, with compressor
New black denim seats
hard top with rear slider window
Cold AC, mounted under dash

He said this Jeep has about $40K invested in it. This started as a personal project for himself. My buddy bought a Scrambler from this same guy about 3 years ago and it still runs strong. I am going to look at it on Tuesday.

Missouri Bound Well I hope this isn't your life savings or college fund. Part of owning a Jeep (IMO) is doing the work yourself...not buying somebody elses project. Sorry if this hurts anyones feelings.

YJman For 15K, I hope everything goes flawlessly!

4Jeepn Um, what's the spec's on it? Might not be worth 5k let alone 15k. What axles does it have, does it have lockers, what t-case, etc etc.. body fiber glass or metal?

What type of usage are expecting out of the vehicle? You were balking at $7000 and now you're looking at spending over $10,000 more?
If you're looking at a DD, 38-inch tires will beat you up. It looks like a beautiful show Jeep!

laffs this is what i picked up from c/l for $2000 a couple weeks ago 95 needs some welding on the frame. its on the road now but still needs some tinkerin.

turdhurdler I am not a Jeep pro, but didn't the Saraha package come with full doors and not half doors? Also, I agree that the price is a bit high. My wife bought me mine as a Giftmas present in bone stock condition (no lift, or other goodies besides 31" tires and spend 4500 with a new soft top, and 147K on the odo. 4.0 and manual trans.

I would recommend getting an unmodified Jeep and do the build yourself. If you get one already modified, there is a chance it has been wheeled pretty hard. Especially with new paint to cover any damage. I would personally look at this Jeep, but look good. Look for rust on the frame like 4Jeepn stated. Also as stated by 4Jeepn, why a rebuild so soon on the engine? These can take a lot of abuse and neglect and keep going better than a timex.

Whichever your choice, good luck and welcome to the world of Jeeps and the forum. This is hands down the best place for Jeep info without flaming from members. We like newbies. We all were at one time ourselves.

Missouri Bound Where is the vehicle from? Blue book values vary depending on where in the country the vehicle is / was. Vehicles from the snow belt tend to have rust issues, and the YJ is notorious for frame rust....and it's 18 years old. 5K sounds closer to where you need to be...unless it's truly exceptional.

RednekYJ I would offer 4 and go from there but not pay a penny over 5k. It is nice but there are so many out there for cheap. You could easily buy a $2000 jeep and make it alot more capable and personalized with the extra 2-3k.
02-14-2011 07:20 PM
laffs seems like you could buy a $1000 beater dump 5k into it and have one of the better rides around

Tmandorfer yeah both of the other 2 you posted are scams, dont even bother. And I just bought and 89 yj with a rebuilt 91 motor with 80,000 miles on it for 3200 with extra tops. No it doesnt look nearly as good as the first one you posted, but I can do alot with 4 grand to make it look like the first one, plus I get to work on it!

Too good to be true. Craigslist is a great place to find used Jeeps and also a great place to be ripped off. If the ad doesn't have a phone number its probably spam.

4Jeepn Needs a new top, has engine rebuilt.. why? Hows the trans and t-case? Look for rust on the frame at rear near spring hangers, and front near steering box. as for cost:
seems high even at 6k. Price will vary greatly of course. for 6-7k I would look into used TJ's even if I had to end up spending a bit more.
02-14-2011 12:38 PM
stussy5555 I spoke to the seller and the lowest he is willing to go is $6,000. It seems like with new tires, wheels, paint job, rebuilt engine, that it's a good buy, but then again, I don't know much about Jeeps. Any others want to chime in?

Also, when I go look at it, what specifically should I look at?
02-14-2011 10:30 AM
Thuone I would say Yes it was worth it. Is it a great deal, maybe not. I bet he is getting almost what he has in it.
I boutght my 87 in central FL for $3,500 stock in '09..
+ This is newer
+ Tires would cost around 1k
+ Rebuilt engine about 1,500
+ Paint 700 minimum
+ Lift
+ Other smaller upgrades
02-14-2011 10:19 AM
PennD88 7000 seems very high. I'm buying a 94 Sahara exactly as you described except a 5 speed and only 150k for 3000. Although mine has been through a few New England winters.
Nice Jeep though
02-14-2011 10:14 AM
89JEEPYJ 7000 might be a little high. If you can get him to 4-5 it would be a pritty good deal since its such a clean truck. But just because its clean doesnt mean its mechanically sound

Looking at a 1993 YJ, What's it worth?

Hey guys,

I have recently decided I want to get a Jeep Wrangler, been looking around for a while and one came up on Craigslist where I live. I like the look of it, and it looks like the guy put a lot into it.

Here is the listing:
1993 Jeep Wrangler YJ 4x4 Sahara A/T A/C

We are selling our 1993 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 Sahara Edition YJ with the 4.0 Liter engine . It has 160k miles but it was rebuilt last year. It has; Cold A/C , Automatic Transmission, Lifted (4" ???) with New 33" BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A Tires, New Paint Job, New Spray-in Bedliner throughout interior, New Husky Liner mats in front and rear, Removable Center Console, Removable faced Radio/ CD with remote and with Speaker Bar. It runs/ drives really nice. It has a Bestop top but is torn at a couple of the seams and probably needs new top frame. The top is off and is in our garage; buyer can take it if wanted. There are 2 dents in rear by door (shown in pics). Comes with extras; Sahara decals, Bikini Top, Replacement Mirrors.

Probably the nicest YJ listed! NOT JUNK!

Please let me know what you think about the pricing on it? Also, if I were to go look at it, what issues should I look for?

Thanks
