debruins umm and the most complicated jeep to date is the JK buddy, and it is easier to work on if you have ne clue what you're doing, the computer should tell you exactly what wrong if you have a scanner!!
but i also said that if you are handy enough to figure that stuff out on your own then the computer gets in the way, so re read and think b4 you start bashing other ppls posts!

also agreed get the car that looks like it is well maintained, a 95 YJ, could be in infinitly better shape than a 97 TJ, its all about the P.O.!

i dont know why you would think the most complicated jeep to date would be easy to work on but OKAY! and for braking ive seen just as many brokin things on tj as ive seen on yj a used car is a used car is a used car and thing about jeeps is people beat the hell out of them be for they sell them .

BILLG I have owned both and prefer tht TJ.There is nothing wrong with the YJ if you go YJ get the 91 and later with fuel injection.Either one will do a good job.

kbak303 i appreciate the comments and that gives me a whole lot to think about...

I have skills, growing up around a commercial garage all my life...but then i'm not saying I have like GOOD skills....

I like the YJ if there's no computer to deal with...i guarantee my wife will like the TJ due to the ride quality...

and i'll bet i'll have to find an automatic for her :chair:

maye i can find two cheap enough!

they keep coming down on the that '06 SE lol..the stealership called and said they'd dropped it down another $200 lol

debruins oh yeah if you dont have the skilz to fix things you will need to get a TJ, then the codes will tell you what is wrong, and also they shouldnt have as many things wrong with them, but if you have the skilz a YJ nwill be easier because you wont have to mess with all the computer junk

killerisdead if you want some thing that looks like a jeep buy a tj if you want some thing that drives like a jeep buy a yj .........50+ years of leafsprings vs 10 year for coils ..........yjs just feel like a jeep to me every time ive driven a tj its like drivin a honda !!!

jeepyj027 If you have a good deal of mechanical skill and like tinkering and working on stuff a good bit then go for a yj. If you are more interested in being able to drive alot without doing much wrenching then get the tj.

debruins the coil's should flex better, and they will be a betrer ride on the road, but if it gonna be for mostly off road, i would get a cheaper, yet still in good shape YJ and spend allt he money you saved and put in lots of upgrades, but the Tj's will be more comfortable, and flex better, and they look a little better, the hoods dont looks as elongated, and they have round headlights, and they just have cleaner lines,
but again those lines will get messed up pretty quick with some good hard wheeling

it is all about prfrence and finding the right jeep, like i said to someone else about if he should get a CJ7 or 5, look for both and when you find a reallly good deal, and a jeep that just calls to you get it, they're all jeeps and they all have lots of aftermarket parts and are reliable if they were/are taken care of

JCS05Rubi Lots of people are trading in/selling TJs for jks, so there are plenty in good shape.

If I was gonna do over though, I would get a CHEAP yj as a trail jeep/second vehicle, and a midsize pickup/suv as my DD. I am really unlucky when it comes to Jeeps, but for me Jeep and dependable never go in the same scentence. With that said, plenty of people I know here and in person, run Jeeps as DDs with no problem, which is why I say i am unlucky.

I have a love/hate relationship with wranglers, so for me, its easier to just love it on sat/sun, and leave it be during the week.

Just my .02, opinions are like,,.....

naterg I say go TJ, of course, I am more biased, and I like the round headlights better. As far as after market, the YJ has been around longer, so the parts are sometimes cheaper, although the TJ has a pretty strong after market as well. Dependability wise, it all depends on how well the rig was taken care of by the previous owners. Obviously the likely hood is the TJ will be more dependable because of it being newer. I am not sure with YJs, but I know my TJs doors are easy to take off, of course, if the bolts are rusted, then it is a real pain. All in all, it really boils down to personal preference, and personally, I would choose the TJ as they looke better (IMO) ride nicer, are newer, and have about the same aftermarket as a YJ.

took everyone's advice and passed on the 06 SE...soo...

we're reevaluating and know we want a Wrangler for fun, weekend car etc...

so which is best as far as modding? taking the doors off and blowing through some sun and fun? things of that nature...

I know what to look for as far as the 4.0, etc...but as far as aftermarket support, taking doors off, dependibility....is there much difference between the TJ and YJ years?
