kylesjeep thanks guys, it's so much nicer having a center console. You never realize how much you use something until you don't have one.

brannon502 Looks good. I love making salvage parts work. No reason to reinvent the wheel.

kylesjeep Here is how it looks when it's finished.

These consoles come in gray and spice colors.

I can't put my back seat all the way forward, when I fold it down and roll it, because I mounted the console a couple of inches too far back. So, I might change that a little later, I don't know we'll see what hapens. But I love it, and it is in there pretty solid.

This build only cost me about a dollar, and that was for the hardware to mount. I got the console itself for free

kylesjeep Take the console housing and put the 2 mounting screws in the console. Take the spacers and cut the clips off of the end.

Thread the spacers all the way onto the mounting screws.

Re-install the console cover onto the console frame. With a phillips head screw driver line the screws up into the holes. and tighten them up.

Re-install the cup holder. The back of it slides in 1st, and then push down firmly on the front (you should feel and here it pop into place)

Re-install the arm rest and the arm rest bolt covers and you are done.

kylesjeep Screw the mounting plate to the floor with 4 self tapping screws.

Set the frame on the mounting plate, mark and drill the holes to bolt it together.

Now bolt it together.

Set the console housing over the frame and screw it in.

mark the holes for the front mounting screws by sticking the mounting scerws in the hole and scratching the paint on your floor. Then remove the console housing and drill your front mounting holes.

kylesjeep Re-assembly:

I re-assembled the console and placed it in my Jeep. I eye balled it and centerd the console on the hump of the floor board. I made sure that this was where I wanted to mount the console. I used a sharpi pen and marked the back and front of the console frame.

Then I got a piece of diamond plate that I had laying around, and cut it to the size of the bottom of the console frame.( This will be used as a mounting plate, so it needs to be fairly ridged)

kylesjeep There is a screw underneath where the arm rest was attached remove this. Now you can pull the the console cover up and off of the frame.

Remove the two front scew spacers, you are going to re-use these.

Now remove the four 10mm nuts that hold the console frame to the floor board.

After you take all the bolts out, the frame is free to be lifted out. I used a hammer and broke the old welded in studs that mount the frame to the floor and re-used them. (If I were to re-do this I would just use regular nuts and bolts from the hardware store to do this.

kylesjeep Removal:

Pull up on the front of the cup holder to remove it from the console and expose the two mounting screws that hold the front of teh console on.

Remove these two screws.

Pop the arm rest bolt covers off with a flat bade screw driver.

Remove the four 8mm bolts (there is two on each side).

Now pull the arm rest straight up.

kylesjeep Well, it came out of a 1996 Ford explorer, and I noticed that the 1992 explorer had the same one but in gray. My dad wouldn't let me take that one, because the car wasn't wrecked. (my parents own a Towing company) So now I have to paint the console to match my interior, and i'm gonna see if my sister can make me a camo arm rest cover too.

domeshots thats not a mid nineties console (well maybe it is) but my brothers 2000 had that exact same one. While my old 99 had a different one

sinepome A write up would be nice. I'm getting tired of re-arranging my blanket console.

GrNMoNsTr--93YJ That would be a nice write up since I'll be going out to a junkyard here in the next couple days and could pick one up while I'm there. So yes to the write up and definitely yes to plenty of pictures. Thanks in advance

Figured out a cheap center console for my YJ!!!

If any one is interested, I figured out that a mid 90's ford explorer center console will fit very nicely into a YJ with very little fabrication. If you are interested in this mod I took a lot of pics, and could do a write-up, just let me know. I will post a pic of the semi-finished product when I get home in a little bit.

Kyle...
