ChaseRedJK I kept count yesterday; Passed seven other Jeeps (TJs and JKs) got six waves back!

I've always thought it was a Wrangler only thing and have acted accordingly. To each his own though. IF someone driving another model of Jeep waived at me, I would waive back.

Yeah at the end of this video the guy should have been like "The moose out front should have told you" Don't forget to wave!

HolidayJK I wave no matter what....

When I had my TJ and driving down the road I always waved some didnt respond. But as they saw me every morning they started to wave back. Now I have had the JK for a couple of years any Jeeps I see passing always seem to wave back as well. It doesnt bother me if they dont wave back. Even riding my MC some don't wave back either....

Turbaru I wave every time whether the recipient is looking or not! Just how I roll...
02-22-2011 06:41 PM
chrisojk I have been waving quite a bit since I got the Jeep in October (I looked the other way when passing a JK on 20" chromies). Not one wave returned. I have given up, I think the Jeep wave phenomenon does not exist in Australia.
I got my hopes up when I saw a modded Rubi, but nothing (modded Jeeps seem to be a rarity around Melbourne).

I wave to all wranglers stock or modded. And I also wave to Cherokees and libertys that are definitely modded for trail riding.

ZOMB1E Here's one: do you wave at another jeep at night? Once in awhile I try, but i'm sure i'm wasting my time.
02-21-2011 09:02 AM
ChaseRedJK I always wave at every Jeep I see, I love being a Jeeper! Sometimes I dont get a wave back but I think its just a matter of the other guy/girl not noticing me.. Just means I need some more mods!

captblack The best part of the spring and summer is how easy it is to wave with the top down and the doors off. I get a lot more waves like that.

I really like it when the female passenger waves while her husband/boyfriend just glares ...

NJeepChic I bought my first Jeep Wrangler X in 05, loved the "community wave"! Missed it when I went back to a "civilian" car. Back in a 2011 Wrangler Sport now and have noticed the wave isnt returned as much. I drive a school bus for a living and all I do is wave all day long to other bus drivers! Geeze my arm is tired!

Avalon786 Here there are soooooo many Jeeps running around, I see moms in JKU's all the time, they never even look at other Jeeps (they dont get the whole Jeep thing) I do get random waves from older Jeeps. Many JK's dont even look at me. Maybe there are too many Jeeps on the road? Its not as special anymore? People buy them as "cars"? I have each time, and so does my other half

Merle Swaggard I wave at everyone I dont always get a wave back but.... when I do its awesome! I am gonna start getting a wave or I will stop turn around and sting with the stinger till I do!
02-20-2011 10:51 AM
mtbikbob I have noticed that a built-up off road jeep will more likely wave than a stock one.
02-20-2011 10:24 AM
gregh I continue to wave to every jeep! I would not say I have one particular wave, it may be two fingers, it may be 4 off the steering wheel, it may be my whole hand in the windshield. I also, don't think the non waving is due to JK vs CJ, TJ, etc. I do think the theory of folks buying a jeep for other reasons could have something to do with it. For me, I continue to wave and hope I get one in return. No biggie, I just brought it up because I was surprised by the non wavers.

smaxberry I have to keep my wife from waving, driver waving=cool, driver and passenger=weird.
02-20-2011 08:46 AM
paul66 I think Jeep should put instructions on the sun visor letting new Jeepers know what the Jeep wave is
I wave at ALL Jeeps even when I'm driving my pickup and it's a Chevy
02-20-2011 08:28 AM
vze2372e Yes not serious ...and yea the left hand perched on top of the steering wheel, target in view, eye contact made BOOOM hand lift and wave ...

I have been that prick, when a wave wasn't returned due to other in cab functions such as the GPS, radio, talking to passenger, death gripping wheel when the corner was tighter than anticipated etc) It's true, I would have waved ... IF I SAW YOU

And a wave is a wave - I'm not adopting a special wave when getting a return wave at all is appreciated (as long as it's not the one fingered salute)

That being said, we need more female Jeepers in the Boston area
Well, I don't know that any part of this thread is really that "serious." I don't do any kind of special wave either. Most of the time I just raise part of my hand off the top of the steering wheel and acknowledge the other Jeep driver. People either wave or they don't. I don't take it personally but I have noticed fewer waving the last few years at the same time I've saw the number of Jeep Wranglers on the road seem to go up. Just casual observation.

Kate I only have ONE finger..
02-20-2011 08:15 AM
WranglerAndCommander I've owned my JK for 2 years and I get about an 80% return wave. I'm not being sexist, however, I rarely got waves back from women so I do not wave to them. Plus I'm an older guy and sometimes it didn't feel right waving to younger women. Sometimes I feel the "snub" from non-stock drivers because my JK is still stock, except for a few add-ons that are not easily noticed from a quick drive by.
I spend my summers at the Delaware beaches and I do get more waves from the locals there.

Meijin I wave to almost every Jeep I pass, just a habit... Lol. I don't care if they wave back or not but, I'm just doing my part.

Mac2411 We have a waving gap dammit! Okay, obscure references to Dr. Strangelove aside, I would say that I get about 50-60% response these days. The failure to wave seems to have increased since I got the JK. My theory was CJ, YJ and TJ owners have some kind of beef with JK's, i.e., don't consider it a "real Jeep" and thus don't wave back. On the other hand, a lot of folks in JK's aren't waving either. My theory on that was that a lot of these folks are late to the Jeep game and either don't know about the wave or are not really into the "Jeep thing" because they bought Jeeps for different reasons than folks of our ilk did. Still, I always try to wave anyway. (And by the way, in case anyone questions, my "theories" are really nothing more than idle speculation.)
