Hey im bout to do mine now if u jump on ebay u will find the bearing kit there cheep pull the collumn and repace it out side of the jeep your break master cylender is in the way you thank youself for doing it this way

|kbfunTH||Is there a steering colume bearing kit or something that can be purchased? The slop in the steering is coming from the small shaft that goes into the column housing right at the fire wall. The lower shaft seems to be ok. I got a couple of other opinions just to be sure. I dont' think steering columns are cheap, so if there's a repair kit that I can buy for cheaper, I would rather go that route. Anyone know?|

|Undead-89||That would be the U-joint probably in the shaft itself. I don't think it is replacable it self, you have to replace from the that bolt right next to it all the way to the steering box I think.|

|kbfunTH||So I grabed the steering shaft and there is definitely some play on the end that connects to the steering column. I assume there is a bearing or something in that area somewhere?|

The tie rod bar keeps your wheels aligned.
Check the hoses around your steering fluid reservoir and pump for the source of that leak. If it's the steering gear or pump leaking then it's time to rebuild or replace them.
Also check the fluid level in the reservoir. Low fluid level can cause all sorts of steering noises.

thanks for the suggestions... i was kind of leaning this direction too, but wasn't sure how to check it exactly.
Last night I noticed some 'oil' directly under the steering gear box. Not sure where it came from. Noticed some on the drivers side front leaf spring as well.
Question: Anyone know what the tie rod bar is supposed to do? Seems like it doesn't do anything at all.

|Wrangler Haven||Your steering shaft may be worn out. With the engine off, unlock the ignition and move the steering wheel back and forth. There should be almost no free play without resistance. Also grasp the steering shaft from the engine compartment and try to move it up down and side to side. It should not move but a fraction of an inch either way. If it does then your lower column bearing is worn out.|

|kbfunTH||I keep everything greased and everything is stock. Not sure if something is binding, but it doesn't feel like.|

|89JEEPYJ||make sure the tie rods are all greesed up and boots are good. also make sure nothings binding. also if u have lift shackles and they werent build right they will cause a lot of body roll|

I don't know how to explain this exactly, but I can hear and feel a slight 'clunk' kind of sound around the steering wheel/column when I hit rough road. Might even be coming from the shaft. It's kind of hard to tell exactly where it's coming from with all the road and wind noise. The steering gets a little jumpy as well. Everything feels fine on smooth ground.
