rics1997 Not as many use them, at least in the LT series. A few years back 17's were expensive for the same reason but now most new larger vehicles run 17's making them more common

j33pZ Curious-- why are 18" tires more expensive?

Struppa79 Sick, thank you

Ape Yep. That is what I did with my Sahara. Went to 17" with BFG MT's and couldn't be happier. I hated those 18"s.
Ended up selling my Sahara Wheels and Tires for $700.

Struppa79 So Can I just buy 17" rims with a 5x5 bolt pattern and be all set?

Struppa79 Thanks

ESP 16s or 17s would be better than 18s for sure. I would recommend 17s because they look very good on the bigger JK body and fill the wheel well out very nicely. It looks the best from an appearance stand point IMO.

InfernoGirl It probably would be worth while to downsize wheels if you want new tires. As you've discovered, 18" tires are $$$. Spend some time reading here. There's a ton of info concerning what fits and what doesn't. The selection of tires in 16" is pretty limited as well, but it depends on what you want.

2011 smaller wheels

I'm a newbie and I did some searching but couldn't find what I was looking for. I am purchasing a 2011 JKU Sahara. I am interested in going with 16" or 17" wheels due to the price of trying to replace the stock 18" wheels. My questions are
1) Is it worth the cost of going with the smaller wheels vs. keeping stock
2) What modifictaions spacers etc do I need to move down to 16" wheels
3) How do I find the proper sizes for wheels and tires
