so my 87 4 banger for the week wasnt cutting it for me, i have a v8 Z28 i needed the v6, i sold it and am gonna be picking up a 90, 4.2, with 33 and 4in lift on monday.
same use will apply as before 25% off, will my plan of upgrades change because of the car?
the last jeep owner of the 87 4 banger knew close to nothing about his jeep i wasnt comfortable with that. so i sought out a more knowledeable prevous owner.
the 90 has new clutch, and much better up keep. once again help a rookie out

These are the things I would suggest:
1. Take it to a good shop and have all the fluids changed. Motor, tranny, diffs, etc. Or do it yourself if you have the time and knowledge.
2. Change the plugs and wires, coil and rotor, if you have them.
3. Check over the suspension and tighten everything up.
4. Check the manifold, cat, pipes and muffler for signs of deterioration, loose or missing hangers, etc.
5. Check the motor mounts to see if they are dried out or cracked. Rev the engine and watch how much the engine tilts, a little is normal, a lot is shot MM's.
6. Check the e brake by putting it on and trying to drive forward or reverse with it on. If you can move the jeep very far you need to adjust it or check the pads for wear.
7. Go down to your local auto store and buy a pair of fuzzy dice to hang on your mirror, or one of those Hawaaian hula girls for the dash.

Well, for starters, do you have the 4.2 or the 4 banger. If you have the 4.2 then the carb is the first thing to address. They are always a problem. There are a couple of option here. Weber makes a nice carb, but I don't think it is emissions legal if that is a concern. The better method if you have the money is fuel injection. You an either go with the Howell system or the Mopar system.
Do you have stock gears? if so, then you should look into that upgrade as well. Might as well throw in some lockers while you are in there. The ratios again, depend on which motor you have.
Exhaust upgrades are always a good way to gain a little power. I installed a header, high flow cat, and a flowmaster muffler which greatly improved the power and response.
Some armor would also be good to get if you are going to be playing off road, Some good bumpers and rocker guards will keep you from destroying the body.
There, I just spend about four or five grand for you. Welcome to the forum and the life of Jeeps.

Do you know the history of this jeep at all? How well was it maintained?
Always the first step I take with a used vehicle is a thorough going over. Change fluids, do a tune up, repair any leaks, ect.
As you drive it you will see what it is capable of and you can determine what mods you want to do from there.

got some newb questions
i established i am a newb so you will not ridicule me for the potential dumb questions.
i just bought a 87, i was a past owner of a 93, at the time not real interested in the upkeep and upgrades of it.
now that i am older, and have a bit more money its something i am trying to do right.
my question is what is first? i already have 33in tires and a 4 in lift. but nothting internally done so what is the best way to go about this. help me do this right. thanks in advance.
