|Jma20a||you should just replace it and see what happens, as for sony they seen to be nice with the hole skipping, but other than that its not worth it go with alpine, clarion, or kenwood.|

I got a pretty good Sony from Best Buy I think. It was about $120 I think it doesn't skip at all.It has the Ipod connection on the front. It also has a cd control which I also in my jeep. I never detach the face either. To me its a waste.
I did have a Pioneer that was like $350,I had in my Jeep, but when summer came around I decided to put the Sony in b/c I didn't want come out of a store one day and it be gone.
Just go to your local Best Buy or Circuit City, they always have something good on sale.Just get a name brand and you will be safe. Also you can get a cd cleaner and clean the laser eye and that may help, but you would be better off just buying a new one.

|my98tj||yeah, once you take the glove box out it's right there. i'll try to get some pics once i get home of where it is. i got a pioneer premier radio for my fiance's grand cherokee that plays mp3's and has an auxiliary input on the front of it (for your ipod or the like) for about $115 or so shipped. i got it off ebay. i really like pioneer radios. the premier units have 22w rms and 3 sets of preamp outs.|

I was hoping for $120 or less. I have a soft top and i never remove my face plate. So if i get a cheap one maybe they wont try to steal it.

[QUOTE=Walkeraviator;109141]I am going to replace it with the cheapest radio that reads MP3 discs and has 22watts per channel.
if you go for the cheapest you might end up with a head unit that skips, what are you looking to spend on the head unit?
this is the head unit that i have in my '99 wrangler, it reads mp3's,wma, and aac, and it is full of great features at a good price http://www.crutchfield.com/S-tG7K5B7...00&I=113MP3035

Its freakin old. I bought it in 1998 to put in my 91 Bronco and it has just managed to hang around this long. I am going to replace it with the cheapest radio that reads MP3 discs and has 22watts per channel.
And thanks for that antenna advice... you say it is behind teh glove box... is it easy to get at once the glove box is removed?
|07-26-2007 12:46 PM|
|my98tj||for the static problem, i would check behind the glove box as there is an intermediate connection for the antenna. i disconnected mine when i put my radio in my jeep and it drove me nuts for awhile until i found that. how old is the radio? i know the older radios don't have as good of skip protection as the newer ones. also, does the front face flip down to insert cds or is it a front loader? a flip down face will help prevent dirt and debris out of the radio.|

Hey guys, I have an old Kenwood CD player in this jeep. It is the second one that I have put in it and they both had the same problems.
1. Cds skip really bad. More so than they did in my Civic with coilover suspension that rode three times stiffer than the jeep.
2. The radio gets absolutely terrible reception. Even the strongest radio stations in town come through staticy and weak.
Is this a common thing or do I need to replace the Radio and/or the antenna??
