rrich A muffler shop deals with quiet mufflers all the time. Most luxury car owners want quiet - they aren't trying to impress little kids with their pretended manhood.

Go to an independant shop, the chain stores will rip you off.

john97TJ Look into Flowmaster Hushpower, I haven't heard it on a Jeep, but it is supposed to be relatively quiet.

Merle Swaggard Cool thank u

Geno The muffler was $77 and tailpipe was $35. For a little over $100 I got a " Cat Back " exahust system. The next cheapest was + $200 on Ebay. I like the stock muffler sound " or lack there of ". Not a bad job to do on a Saturday. I completed mine in about 4 hours. You dont need to weld either. Clamps were $2.50 each.

RainydayTJ thanks guys, when i bought the jeep it had the current flowmasters exhaust, which in my opinion could be "Blowmas...." it sounds nice but even at 1700 rps, sounds like im going 50 mph... so this is what im going to try, pick up a muffler from napa and get the thing welded to a flange and exhaust hangers that will later bolt up to the existing muffler, and slap it onto the rear bumper, see how that goes, ill do a write up with some pics when its gets started, thanks for your opinions... again the title sounded fun, but really its for hunting purposes right now, but for the misses my drive way is a 40 degree incline... so there is no sneeking home... not into the drive way atleast, the side of the street is for that ... cmon guys

Merle Swaggard How cheap Geno? I plan on doing that my muffler ate a rock with previous owner

Geno I just replaced my TJ with a stock replacement at Autozone. It was cheap and is very quiet.

AtcoTrailsINC with the stock exhaust the noise from my engine running was louder than the exhaust lol guess its time you learn the "coast" method. Gather some speed before your driveway and far enough away turn her off and let it coast just hope to god your strong enough to turn and that your vacuum system is up to par to allow you a few assisted pumps of the brakes or you might just wind up going through the front door with more than yourself

UnlimitedLJ04 just get a plain replacement muffler...midas, NAPA or whatever. don't get a "performance" muffler and you'll be fine.

Barrie Lets keep it on topic shall we. He explained why he wants it quieter.

Arch Stanton I read a review in a 4wd magazine that stated the VT Dynomax was fairly quiet.

Sneek home w/the Misses sleeping! Quieter Exhaust?

Kinda sounds dumb but after aimless searching on the internet, i havent found an exhaust that could make my TJ quieter... I was wondering if any one tried to make their exhaust really quiet, like an extra muffler connected to the exhaust pipe. Idealy, just hear the engine noises and belts spinning, but that might not be plausable. Im thinking getting an extra muffler and taking it to a muffler shop to weld it to a bolt-on flange that'll hook onto the rear bumper.... A good buddy of mine which is disabled wants to go "eradication" hunting with me and i would like him to shoot from the jeep. I've seen them for ATV's. Any one ever done this on a truck or jeep?? I have other ideas with him but i just wanted to throw it out here on the boards of opinions... Thanks for reading guys, much mahalos.
