As stated above add a piece to extend it. Or What I do is when it slips, its typically because the arm has bent. I just bend it back into place. several swift blows with a hammer usually works pretty well.

My 2000 had same problem I welded a little pice of metal on it to make it longer so it wouldn't slip by the rod

Friend, this is for the time no mater what you do you still can't get the door open.

Reread my original post and you will see I DID get the interior panel off, and NO amount of fingering, banging or anything would get the latch release.

Once I got the latch out and took it appart I discovered why. When you unlock the latch, you don't actually MOVE anything inside the latch to unlock it. What unlockng does is only ALLOW a spring inside the latch to move actually unlatch the locking finger.

If the spring is weak or the locking finger siezed you are screwed.

If you have had yours stick repeatedly, then you need to get in there now and lube it up really good before you are looking a hack saw blade and this thread.

Yep, when you have spent the last 3 days trying EVERYTHING possible-every trick off every web forum-squirted 3 cans of lube-disconnected every operating rod-finally removed the interior panel from a locked shut door-and you STILL can't get the door open, here is how you do it.

First, go to dealer or junk yard and get a new door striker plate. 17 bucks from dealer. Mine was here next morning.

Second, grab you a hack saw blade and wrap one end in a rag and crawl inside that sucker. Slide the seat next to the stuck door all the way back, then lean it all the way back and get comfortable cause you are going to be in there about an hour.

Slide the blade in the gap tween the door and jamb and start sawing on the inner striker loop post. You will be able to stroke the blade about 1/2" so it will take a good 30 minutes....Once you are thru the inner striker hoop post, then saw thru the outer one. About 30 minutes later the door will swing open! YEHAW!

Drink two beers

Now you have to remove the offending latch from inside the door. After 30 munutes of trying to remove it, you discover why it won't come out.....The ONLY way it is going to come out past the rear window track is if you remove the hoop you just cut off the striker plate, so stop and drink one more beer. Then get back in there and fiddle with the stuck latch until you can finally get it to release the hoop....Once the hoop is out, you can rotate the latch enuff to get it past the window track.

Drink one more beer.

Ok, now that the latch is out, you can either take it apart and try to finger out why it hung up or you can go in the house and order a new on for 80 bucks from Full and Half Door Components for 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ like I did.

Now that I have my new latch, Im gonna take the old one apart to see just WTF made it seize up! But I need more beer first.

You guys with half doors might have the same problem with the hoop and window track clearance issue, if so do all the above.
would a case of beer be even better ?

When you absolutely CANNOT get your Wrangler TJ door to open

This is for full metal doors only! Cause I ain't never tried it on half doors.
