|mikeJKUR||Anyone know the weight of a Rubicon X bumper?|
|06-12-2014 02:42 AM|
I just picked up my Aries aluminum stubby bumper and the weights of the components are:
1 alum. center section 21 lbs
2 alum. stubby end caps 7 lbs
1 center brush bar 2.5 lbs
2 steel tow tusks 11 lbs
1 steel winch plate 11 lbs
Total winch bumper weight 52.5 lbs, plus a new Warn M8000-S synthetic line winch that is 52 lbs.
Sugggestion - if you order an Aries aluminum bumper, order it bare aluminum and have it powder coated locally, so it doesn't arrive chipped on the corners like mine did. That also give you the chance to clean up any rough edges before it gets powder coated or painted.

So, Matty87 ~
Now that you've owned a JK for over a year ( since this post , anyway) you feel that you've gotten your own question answered about the weight thing?
I was browsing thru this thread , saw your post and said to myself, " I'll bet he knows the answer to that question after driving around for a year...."
Although a 2 door from your avatar, I would imagine you've had to xconsider weight savings at LEAST once over the past years time....
yeah, weight makes a massive difference unless you've got the poclets for a Hemi or an LS swap......

Looking to add a 2" lift as well but that would be down the road as money builds back up. If the bumper drops the front end to much I am gonna rethink or wait for the lift to be installed......any advise or feedback here?

Does anyone know, offhand, if the LoD bumper (without stinger) will accept an RCX winch plate?
I'm running the RCX plate and an ENGO 10000 winch on the stock bumper and would like to be able to use the winch plate I have as opposed to buying a second one.

Here' a photo of my LOD armor lite bumper setup with Warn VR10000s. Just waiting for their rear bumper, rumored to maybe available this spring.

Warn Elite bumper shipping weight is 115 lbs with grill guard tube an without tube - 111 lbs. Must be around 10 pounds of packaging so figure that in

|OffRoadCam09||Most of jcr's bumpers are fairly light running around 65lbs. I have the stubby stinger from them with skid plate an its around 75-80lbs all together.|

LoD Armor Lite mid-width: 34 lb
Bull bar: 12 lb
Skid plate: 11 lb
Engo E10000S winch: 60 lb
Rigid D2 (pair): 2.5 lb
Total weight: 119.5 lb
Not bad for a complete setup, eh? This LoD Armor Lite bumper truly lives up to its name!

Anyone install one of these?

Then I started reading, and learned that this is one very valid question.
The answers i read are fascinating and mind boggling.
The weight differences are unbelievable. Add to this bigger and heavier rims and tires, add to this a winch - and there you have it : a dog !!
Granted, dog which may be rock crawling, but try hitting the highway with this. No wonder lot's of guys are switching to Hemi engines.

|dongalonga||After a bunch of research, I have decided to go with the Expedition One DX with wings and Rubi Skid. That combo will add less than 50lbs to my rig. Then factor in an Engo E9000s winch and we are around +/-100lbs. Not too shabby.|

|ReedFlip||Okay. Thanks everyone! I think I am going to get the Body Armor 4x4 Front High Clearance Bumper and the Body Armor 4x4 Rear Base Bumper so that I can mount the Body Armor Roof Rack without having to do any modifications to any other rear bumper.|
