|Always Stuck||I agree look around and be sure to check the frame. I looked at 7 before I bought the 94 in the link below. Most of the others had frame problems. Mine has an I6 with a 5 speed. I thought it had enough power and I was getting 18 MPG. I also like the square head lights.|

|Zack93||Yep it wasn't meant to be luckly I emailed him right before I left on the 3 hour drive,, he said he forgot to tell me but he sold it to a dealership the other night. I mean what a douche bag. Haha|

|YJman||Hey good luck man!! Have fun and be absolutely sure to tap and pick at the frame wherever you can lol. Make sure there's no rot.|

|jkaufman_95||I agree with Geoff. I bought the first one I looked at and got screwed. Looked at about 20 this time and have the nicest jeep I've ever been in.|

Don't fall in love. Yet. Be critical. There are always more Jeeps to look at.
I just talked to a guy who looked at 30+ Landcruisers before he found the perfect one. I think that's a bit extreme, but you get the point.

|Zack93||Okay so i am going to look at that jeep tomorrow at 10:30 wish me luck!|

Well I'm off to math class so everyone have a great day!

Edit: Does anyone have one of these cargo nets?

I have the manual Peugeot trans on my 89 carbed i6 with 203,000 miles on it. One clutch change in that time. I don't do any serious Off-roading and I use it as my DD. I can hit 85mph on the Highway, if I want to. Tires are 30's.
Manual will get you better gas mileage and more power in general. You you do a lot of Highway especially with toll booths, I would aim for the i6 in Carb or Fuel injected. the 2.5 IMO is a bit of a slug off the line, which make make you push it and actually get worse gas mileage.

|kbfunTH||I think the square headlights look tougher.|

|FirstJeep4Me||I have a 1994 YJ and I love it. I've had it for about a year with no problems. Mine has the 4.0 and manual transmission. Those were must haves for me, along with the hard top. I didn't want square headlights at first, but now I like the fact that my Jeep has that extra difference from most of the other Jeeps.|
|03-08-2011 09:02 PM|
The earlier YJs had some weaker parts sourced from Peugeot (AMC was owned by Renault; same parent company back then). Mostly the transfer case and transmissions. Not certain if that includes a 1992. One of the YJ experts will know.
From a collectibility standpoint, the YJ used to be the red-headed stepchild of the Jeep world, but that's changed a LOT in the past ten years or so. They are now very popular, and prices are holding steady. A 92 you buy now and enjoy for a few years should sell for about the same as you bought it for.
Putting a YJ front end on a TJ is a, um, dumb idea. It would devalue it. But it sure says a lot about how square headlights are gaining in popularity!
(dumb from a value perspective. I support the idea of "your jeep, your money, your dreams!")

They want like $3200 for the jeep and its got 91K miles on it, its base model, nothing modded.. Has a little rust on the tailgate and front finder, and it need the turn signal switch replaced and the oil gauge replaced..
Also i really like the insides of the TJ so is there anyway to get a YJ front end (like the lights and stuff) on a TJ? haha stupid idea i know, but i like the square headlights much better!

|darkproximity||Curious too, what are the specs of the one you're lookin at? how much are they asking and do you have pics?|

Yeah i feel the same, I'm wanting a DD and maybe a bit of offroad. I go places on the freeway once in a while and need to go at least 70 without stressing anything.
I decided to go with a 4.0L I6, which means 1991 - 1995, as the 87-90's had a 4.2L I6 carbureted, producing less HP, but had more usable torque because it came at lower RPMs.
I also wanted a family roll cage because I have an 18 month old and the wife wants shoulder belts in the rear, so that means 92-95 (unless i modify a 91). (This wont be the primary vehicle for transporting my son though)
I also want a manual because they're more fun to drive
Sounds like a 91-95 would be best for you, as you probably want fuel injected, and as a DD you might be taking it on the freeway too, I've read time and time again the 4 cylinders dont have the power to really work well on a freeway and stress the motor more (higher RPMs).
Hope this helps some!

Im just looking for a DD and something that can easily go over curbs. i mean im not set one thing or an other..If that makes since

Can't go wrong with a jeep, from a flattie to a JK you'll be welcome anywhere you go.
I like the square light jeeps because they are sort of a cross-roads old meets new phase for jeep. To me they are like a cool jeep counterculture. Simple to work on and parts are cheap too.

Some jeepers think the square headlights are the bastard child of jeep, as all other jeeps have circle headlights which gives the more typical jeep look.
He might have said that because the suspension is a bit more rough, being all leaf suspension all around, instead of the newer TJ's with the coil suspension. The dashboards arent as "nice" as the newer jeeps, they have an old look and feel to them.
I guess it all depends on what you're going to use your jeep for? I can give you more advise based on what your uses will be as i am also looking to buy a YJ.

|183Beast||Some people just don't like the square lights. There is nothing wrong with them compared to other jeeps.|

looking at a 92
I'm looking at getting a 92, with 91K miles on it. My pole vault coach who's brother messes around with jeeps said "say away form the ones with square head lights" Now i was wondering why that was? I mean, what are the reasons for me not to get a 1987-1995?
