|Tank77||I agree with Hilldweller, it will be much more gratifying to do them both at the same time but if you must I would grab the new wheels in a 17x9. You could always grab tires later or even find a good deal on CL for some tires.. A huge reason I say this is if you buy the rims you can avoid th cost of buying backspacers as most rims aftermarket will have the correct spacing you need when you add bigger tires.|

And if you've got enough meat on the tires to reuse them, I'd just wait and buy the new tires and wheels at the same time.
Keep your money in the bank. Maybe watch and wait for a sale.
I know it's an itch you want to scratch, but the scab will heal without a scar if you wait it out...

|bamajeeper||I would buy a 17 x 8 wheel. that would fit your 255's better and also would be a better choice when you mount 285's. I say this for offroading, you can air down more with a narrower rim. I would think a 17 x 9 will work OK. Just my 2 cents.|

New tires or wheels?
I have enough money saved up for either wheels or tires. The wheels i want are PRO COMP 1079 17x9 4.75BS. I will have to mount the factory tires 255/75/17 on the new wheels. My question for that would be is a 17x9 inch rim to wide for factory tires. The tires will be 285/70/17 on factory wheels with spidertrax 1.5 spacers, i have a few brands of tires to chose from. Just looking for some advice and opinions. Thanks Tom!
