Erlenbachc yeah i think i figured it out, i think the one zipper is supposed to detach and the other one stay on the window because when i was trying to unzip it the one zipper handle was blocking the right zipper from detaching the window. so i just to the one zipper off then i was able to properly do it. then when come time to put it back on i just jammed the one zipper back on the connect the window

hambubba Mine was zippered, but had a mysterious ty wrap in it at the top. I unzipped the window, then realized that the little doo hickies on the ends of the zipper were missing. MISSING - as in, you can't zip it back no mo. So here I was with a window out... went to some upholstery places, and they said I will need to replace the zipper. Well, barring that miracle happening, I actually used MORE ty wraps, and successfully reattached the window without zipping.

Rednecky I know. Original top, 10 years old so I figured what the heck.

Erlenbachc the coat thing actually reminds me of something, maybe the little square thing on the right side of a coat when unzipped broke off my back window zipper. therefore like if a coat zipper is missing that piece you cant zipp it back up or unzipp it.

Neil F. Too much hardware? Pull the sliders to the left until they are tight together. The tab on the window side should pull up through both sliders and detach the window from the top

Erlenbachc can one of you guys take a picture of what your back window looks like so i can figure out if my zippers are screwed up

You can also just zip both to the top and roll up the window. Then leave it like this or fold the top down with the window rolled and still connected.
I have the same problem he does, both zippers all the way down on the left, but nothing shakes loose. doesn't even look like it SHOULD break loose. looks like too much harware therre, nothing's gonna break loose.

like a coat zipper that has two handles; can't move it down enough to remove it cause there's 2 and not only one. seems like a crappy design. why not only one handle, right to left, and off it goes?

sigh. we had 70+ degrees today and I was bummed it would not cooperate.

FWIW, same with the left window (did not even try the right). zipped all the way to the left, and same thing, too much hardware, would not disengage. I was afraid to force it.

both of them are like a winter coat zipper that you just can't move down enough to disengage it. not because the threads are stuck; but because the hardware design prevents you from moving it down far enough.

crap.

mattjm1017 Take a bar of soap and rub it on the zipper that worked great on mine when it got stuck and wouldnt zip around.

Erlenbachc no like here ill just take a picture of what the zippers look like....how do i upload them? and put them in a post?
03-18-2011 03:44 PM
h2obill so you're saying you can't even unzip the left zipper upwards (when facing the rear window)?

If that's the case then maybe try some non-petroleum based oil/lubricant. Other members have said dealers carry zipper lube for ~5-10 bucks.

Erlenbachc i tried unzipping them both but the one on the left is the only thing thats holding the left side of the window to the rest of the top if i take that out i cant put the window back on. you get what im saying i think its broken because the only zipper that moves is the right one. i can take a pic if it sounds kind of confusing

JSY To completely take the back window off of the top, zip both zippers to the far left end of the track and the window will slide out.

You can also just zip both to the top and roll up the window. Then leave it like this or fold the top down with the window rolled and still connected.

Tj soft top back window problems

ok so my back window doesn't unzip comepletely for some reason, im able to unzip the right side of the window off but i cant unzip the left side because idk if its broken or screwed up but the second zipper its preventing be from disconnecting it from the left side. is it ok if i just flip the right side thing up on the roof and leave the left side down, and just fold the top down like normal? or is there a way i can fix it, or do i possibly need to buy a new back window
